LCD TVs

I'm looking to buy a new HDTV LCD TV. 26"-32". It's for my bedroom. I plan on getting a bigger one for the living room later on. What size should I get first?

How are the Dell and Viewsonic brands? What brands are good? It's been so long since I bought a TV.

The ONLY LCD tv I would even consider is the Sony Bravia. Dell TV's are garbage and Viewsonic is a cheap brand. The Sony has the clearest picture and best sound of any LCD.

First off, no need to be a rude. Second off, I install these things day in and day out. Sony's by FAR exceed the competition where LCD's are involved. They are pricey in part due to their name, but also due to the fact that they are of higher quality. Wh someone would want to spend $1000 and get a cheap, inferior tv with a lousy picture, a lot of pixelation during motion, and a cheap build quality is beyond me. Ratings mean nothing. You have to understand that most ratings go on best "value". They rate by affordability and price. Not necessarily quality. It's the same with Panasonic Plasma's. They also get the highest rating for best value. So people buy them and realize they have horrible pictures and wonder why. It's cause it's $1000 less then the competition, say a Fujitsu or Pioneer. Both of which have a far superior picture quality. So it's all relative. If you want to go cheap, be prepared to have a blurry picture with a tendancy to pixelate during fast motion.

These are the models I'm considering:

26"
Sony KDL-26S2000
Sharp LC26D40U
Samsung LN-S2651D

32"
Sony KDL-32S2000
Sharp LC32D40U or LC32D50U
Samsung LN-S3251D

Any other models to consider? I'm gonna go to JandR later and check them out in person. Do the stores usually hook the TVs up correctly for display?

I just picked up the Sammy LN-S3251D. It's an awesome tv, got it for $1277 + tax. I highly recommend it.

Typically the tv's will only be displayed in High Definition. You have to keep that in mind when shopping. They want you to see it in it's best form, so you may want to ask if they can show you something that is not in high definition (both DVD and regular cable/satellite)

The Sharp is off my list. Sharp 26" and 32" are actually made by Orion and not Sharp.

Not a big fan of LCDs, however, if you were to go the LCD route I'd either go with the Sony Bravia's or the Sammy models.

That is different then what he is looking at. You're referring to a rear-projection LCD. He's referring to a true flat panel LCD. Two different things....

It's probably just like all the second-named brand TVs out there... a.k.a. You should pass on it.

Viewsonic a cheap brand? Viewsonic was a pioneer in LCD technology. They make great products. I still own my 1997 vpa150 15" flat panel. Works great, never a dead pixel, never needed a new backlight. My 19" viewsonic has also been perfect for 3 years now. Unless they skimped on their TV's I bet they make a great product.

Not sure about TV LCD...since it require more contrast, brightness, color than PC LCD
however...Viewsonic and Dell dominate in PC LCD world..

Sony PC LCD is the garbage.......I think op should do more search and look into Dell and Viewsonic.

IMO the only way you'll know LCD or plasma look good is actually go in store and look at actual product....

I see all sorts of tv's on a daily basis. The only LCD tv I have seen that is worth a dollar is the Sony Bravia. I am NOT a fan of LCD tv's at this time. The only one that has any kind of clarity to me is the Bravia. MUCH less pixelation then all the other brands I have seen (I have seen most). This is my opinion of course, but I install these every day and get to see all sorts of tv's in or sorts of settings with different kinds of input sources.

As far as computer monitors go, yes Viewsonic is a good brand. Actually one of the best I believe. My opinion of their tv's differ however. I'll admit I have not seen any brand new models from them however, so it is always possible that they have improved them over time.

Yeah, that's what I figured. My reply was basically the nice way of implying that
