LCD TV speaker placement . . .

Looking at (2) Sony XBR LCD TVs. One has side mounted speakers and the other has bottom mounted speakers. Will it make any difference?

I like the "look" of undermount speakers on TVs (less obvious), but the sidemount TV looks to be a better buy (better audio output power, warranty...).

No surround sound system?

Personally, I prefer the look of them on the side.
And I'm with Scrib....no surround sound?

Odd shaped room and TV is not centered in room, not sure how well surround would work.

Original question was not about the looks of the speakers, but if there would be a difference in how they sound when bottom mounted as opposed to side mounted. I prefer the looks of side mounted, but bottom mount makes a narrower set.

I compared the Samsung 3 series (face mounted) and 4 series (bottom mounted) on a 32" TV and found no difference. I was concerned I might lose some of the high frequencies with the 4 series, but that wasn't the case. I think bottom mounts actually have the greater ability to fake 5.1 surround.

I doubt you'll get any difference in sound between the two.

well their might be a difference if you can hear it. If the speakers is mounted on the bottom and you put it on a tv stand, the sound could potentially reflect off the base. If the speakers are mounted on the side, then the sound doesnt get reflected. Just a thought.

We're not talking about earth shattering volume levels though. Idk. Maybe it would make a difference, maybe not.
