How do you copy recorded programs from a DVR into your computer?

Does anyone know how to copy recorded programs from a DVR (FIOS) to transfer to a computer? I asked not long ago how to correctly wire a DVD-R to my FIOS DVR, I got that working properly, now I want to know if there's a way to transfer it to a computer. Anyone know? FYI the front of the DVR has a USB input as well as a few RCA inputs.

Anyone?

I tape the show to a dvd-r disc and then take the disc to my computer and import file.

I'm burning a DVR recorded program onto a DVD-R as I type this. I'll try that once the program is done...Do I need to finalize the disc to do this?

So I recorded one program onto the disc (but didn't finalize the disc yet), the program will play through the Windows Media Center software that Vista came with when playing off of the DVD-R. I copied everything from the DVD-R onto my computer's hard drive into a file, for some reason it isn't playing. It recognizes the file, but opens up the Windows Media Center Software and plays some demo movie clips that came with the software. I did record it in SP mode (So I get 2 hours on the disc, each program is 45 minutes long with commercials cut out and I was planning on recording 2 episodes on 1 disc). Did I do something wrong, or so I have to finalize the disc before copying it onto my computer HD to watch?

You need to use a video editing program to copy your recording to your computer. You can't copy and paste the files from the disc to the computer.

I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum to import the disc.

You do need a very Very VERY fast computer to do what you are planning to do.
