Gatr I will have to check about that to be sure before I get you an answer.
Did end of ordering some rears for my system. I didn't have to go with matching rears but hey they were on sale and have excellent reviews.

Audi - do you have any thoughts on these KEF?

I have no experience with these speakers. I heard from others that they sound good, but cannot say so myself. I am not a fan of the look so I have never specc'd them on a job. Never had a client ask for an oval speaker either.

Nice deal. Patience definitely pays off when shopping for a receiver.

Sonofabitch. Should have checked the back of the receiver mosre closely. It does not have the 7.1 channel preouts I wanted, and it does not have party mode. Therefore, I have to figure out another way to get the same digital audio that is in the main zone into Zone 2. I might be taking this back.

It does have wireless, so maybe I can listen to net music in zone 2 that way.
Edit: Apparently I can listen to net music like Pandora in zone 2, but if I want to listen to Pandora streaming through my Roku 3, then that won't work.

i'm confused i thought you wanted the ability to run a different digital zone 2... it can do same digital in zone 2, but it will just be 2 channel.. this one does have zone 2 RCA outs for a separate amp but it's only audio...

I also have two 8 1/2" speakers and an 8" sub in my garage for when we listen to Halloween music on Halloween or when we have a party in the driveway (or when I'm working on the car). Right now, I have a Sonic Blue 5.1 receiver driving those speakers in the garage. One of the inputs from the Sonic receiver is the cassette output from my Onkyo 7.1 receiver. This allows me to listen to analog sources outside in my garage.
With this new Yamaha 7.2 receiver, I'm thinking about connecting zone 2 preouts to the old Onkyo 7.1 receiver, and the garage speakers to the old Onkyo 7.1 receiver. The dining room speakers would go to the Zone 2 speaker terminals on the Yamaha 7.2 receiver (even though the manual said not to connect anything on both Zone 2 speakers and Zone 2 preouts). Either that, or I'll connect the old Onkyo 7.1 receiver to the A/V outputs on the new Yamaha 7.2 receiver.

I downloaded the manual before I bought it and looked at the RX-v677 version of the manual:
http://download.yamaha.com/api/asset...asset_id=62158
According to the manual, only the RX-V777 can play any source in Zone 2 that is playing in the main zone (called party mode).
On page 82, it says that it can play the same source, whatever that source is, in zone 2, using the Party Mode, but that's only for the RX-V777.

Nononono. I just want to listen to the same zone 2 music that is playing in the main zone, mainly Pandora.

i see what you mean on party mode... i thought that the Zone 1 and 2 were like Speakers A and B on my old amp... where i could also select A&B at the same time to output... if you want to extend the sound to your dining room for say party mode, why not tap your front channels into a splitter and get that into the other room?

Amazon QA says you can use Zone 2 speakers and preouts at the same time... the volume adjusts on Zone 1 & 2 from the Yamaha amp... whereas the Zone 2 preouts is a set level out so you will need an external amp to drive that signal for those speakers...

So trying to decide what I am going to do now for whole house audio as the new house is not wired with in ceiling speakers like the old one. It is really the only thing I gave up moving to this new place for the most part that was on my original wish list.
I am trying to figure out what all my options are as far as doing it and what the costs of each. Here are what I have come up with so far. I am big on sound quality and full sound so someone of them might not be good solutions.
1. If possible wire certain rooms to connect back to my multizone receiver.
2. Sonos speakers in rooms I want sound.
3. Portable speakers unit set up permanently in each room with Google Audio adapter connected to the input.
The rooms I want to have audio in for sure are the garage, back screened porch, and backyard by the fire pit area. Maybe the master bath, master bedroom, and kitchen as well.
A possible solution for the garage might end up being an old 5.1 Sony Receiver I have that I just hook to two speakers and a Chromecast as I would like to have a 27in or so TV in the garage as well. I also want to eventually put a TV on the back porch as well cause I love being outside. It probably would not get cable but more likely just get content from a Chromecast too. Yes I love Chromecasts and they work pretty amazing from my experience.

Kam you'll like the new Yamaha. It's awesome. I stepped up to the RX-V677 that had HDMI video and 4K switching (from an Onkyo that did not have HDMI inputs), so I pulled out a huge rats nest of wires that I did not need. With the speaker selector box I have, I don't have to wire up zone 2 speakers and can listen to speakers in my dining room with a digital source. I even pulled out a freakin' computer monitor cable I did not need any more.
Took me an hour to label everything and remove and reinstall it into the new receiver (half the time went to cleaning the dust back there too). Heck, I'm now considering now installing zone 2 speakers at all and just using the zone 2 speaker outlets to the forward presence speakers in the ceiling above the front speakers.
Maybe it's just me but the sound seems clearer.
Now tonight to watch U-571!

So the new house does not have outdoor speakers wired like the previous one. I still might go the hard wired route but that might be down the road a bit. So for now I have spent the last month searching for the best possible bluetooth speaker I can use outside on both the rear deck/screened in porch and out by the fire pit which I might never run speakers out there for. After all the countless research I still have not made up my mind. So I bought the top two I had narrowed down as one has a 30 day return policy and the other a 90 day and I can truly decide for myself.
Riva Turbo X - RIVA AUDIO | Premium Bluetooth Speakers - RIVA Turbo X | RIVA AUDIO
Peachtree Deepblue 2 - Wireless Bluetooth Music System - deepblue2 | Peachtree Audio
The Riva Turbo X arrives today and the Peachtree Deepblue 2 should be here tomorrow or Wednesday. If anyone is intersted I can do a write comparing the two while I have them. Hopefully they will meet the needs and give a full sound while even outside.
I plan to use a Chromecast Audio with both of them. The Riva is battery powered where as the Peachtree has to be plugged in. The Riva can charge a device as well as power itself so I will be able to power the Chromecast Audio off it for a fully cable free use outside. The Peachtree though has an optical input so I should be able to get a higher quality input. They both support Bluetooth APtX codec though so I can always use that as well.
