Headphones?

I'm looking to get a decent pair of headphones for general use.. mostly with my ipod.

I'm looking to spend around $100 or so. do you guys have any recommendations? I don't want ear buds they irritate my ears very quickly.

Sennheiser hd 280 pro. Closed headphones for privacy. Sound pretty good. Add in a headphone amp and they sound even better...or louder. I use a Cmoy amp made by jds labs. http://jseaber.com/cMoy/

Search reviews on the hd 280 pro. Won't be disappointed.

Do looks matter to you? Check out the Grado line, very highly thought of.

I second the sennheiser hd280 pro's. I have a pair, but I wouldn't use them for portable devices. I use them for djing and on airplanes, since they do a decent job of blocking outside noises. For my ipod, I use sennheiser px100s. Awesome sound and surprising bass for portable devices, and they're not earbuds.

Normally I happily use a $15 pair of Koss Sparks earbuds (actually quite good sound), but they broke and I am leaving for a week long tip tomorrow, so..........

I picked up a pair of Shure SE115 for $99 at WorstBuy.

Pros:
Sound quality is great
Sound isolation is good
30 day return policy

Cons:
Effing stupid over the ear cord routing necessary for any kind of activity
Comes with a soft case instead of a hard sided case
Headphones plug into cord which then plugs into iPod so you have a connection thing at sternum level

I've heard great things about Shure headphones (no pun intended). I just got a pair of Bose in-ear headphones for my b-day, and they sound really good. I know, I know, many people think Bose = Blose, but these have good highs and mids. But I wish the lows were better.

I swear by my Bose in-ear headphones:

You said ear buds irritate your ears, that's why I got those. I tried many ear buds and I could never make them fit comfortably, but I can wear these for a long time without any issues.

They don't go into your ear canal so they're better for your ears.

They have a lot of bass, which I like, they're as good as ear bud headphones in that respect.

Finally, they don't block out noise, which I also wanted, I needed earphones that I could listen and still hear people talking to me and calling me over. If you need noise-cancelling or isolating ear phones, don't get these.

They also have an iPhone version now which include a microphone and answer button.

My Shure headphones are sick. Much better than the pair of Sony's I also own.

Well, they sound great, I am just dissapoint they make you route the cable over the ear still. I mean, if they were the $400 studio monitor ones, I could understand, but for $99, I want to be able to use these while being active, and the cord just annoys the hell out of me over the top of my ear.

True I can't use them when running. Gotta bust out the crappy OEM ipod headphones.
