HD TV question...

Reguarding viewing size vs. actual size of room.

I'm looking at LCD choices and i think my biggest concern is not the viewing distance but, the size of my living room. It's very small at(11'x16'). My current viewing distance is roughly 12'. According to a few charts I've seen out there, I should go with a 46".

I'm thinking that anything larger then 40" would look huge in such a small room.

What do you guys think?

I'd rather not get opinions of those who sell these things because, well, they'll still try to sell me the larger TV.

I have a 52" set and I sit about ten feet from it...it's perfect (although I was thinking last night I could've gotten a bigger set). The room it's in isn't much bigger than yours, and useable space is comparable. Personally, with a twelve foot viewing distance, I'd get a 60" set.

I have a 47" in the great room and it's perfect. The area for watching tv is about the same size as yours. In my bedroom, I have a 32" and I think it's too small.

IMO, I don't think you can go wrong with a 46" TV.

I have the Samsung 650 and 750 in mind. Both in which i've seen in person and have great pictures quality. The 950 looks insane but, is out of my price range.

Anything is better then the 27" TAU I've had for about 6 years now.

with LCD you aren't going to have any problem being too close at the distance you are talking. If you want to see how big the screen would be, get the dimensions of the set, tape together a few pieces of paper and tape them to the wall.

46" should be fine for that kind of room. I have a pretty small bedroom(12x12) and we have a 27" LCD and it looks great but I think I could get away with a 40". We bought the 27" a year ago just to jump on the LCD bandwagon and that's how we could afford at that moment. Now I'm wishing and definitely will go bigger.

My viewing distance is about 10 feet and I have a 50". I think it's too small.

Seriously, you'll get used to the size in a hurry.

I forgot to mention that my viewing distance is just about 8 feet and at an angle.

Anything under 50" at 10' is too small IMHO.

I have 52" at 12' it's decent.

Here is the rule, measure the distance between where you will be sitting and where the TV will be positioned... Take that number, and divide it by 3, this is the optimum diagonal of what your new LCD should be...Anything closer and you will see pixels....Calibrating the set will also yield better results.

Or buy an expensive LCD such as XBR5 Bravia, great quality at any distance, I love it. Check out AVS forum for professional guidance.
