Dish Network vs Direct TV vs Comcast

Looking into different options, supposedly in Miami Comcast has the worst service and customer support.

For Comcast, 100 digital cable channels and like 20 HD channels along with HBO and showtime, with 3 HD/DVR's its like $104 per month with a one time installation fee of $60

For Direct TV, I can get a plan from a guy I know thats their ultimate plan + nfl ticket for $78 a month, but the HD/DVR's are $200 a piece and I need 3.

For Dish Network I can get their TurboHD gold which is a ton of HD/DVR's on a 24 month contract with HBO and showtime and 3 DVR's with a one time fee of $100 for $43 first 3 months, $65 next 3 months, and $93 the following months.

Anyone know of any better deals, or have a preference on which one to use?

Dish Network told me it would be no cost for them to install a cable outlet in 3 rooms that currently dont have a jack.

DirecTV > all

I'll give you my acct number if you mention it when signing up we both get $100 statement credit.

Did you verify that with DirecTV you do not get any HD-DVRs for free?

My DirecTV is ~$130/month

Tell DTV fuck the NFL ticket and get free boxes. I had the NFL ticket for three yrs and it was great. Then it went up $25 each yr and they want you to pay an extra $100 each year to get the games in HD. I don't miss it w/o having last three yrs.

Do you need HD-DVRs or just DVRs?

In Miami????? DIRECT TV FTW X10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

I'd rather have rabbit ears over comcast down here.

And BTW Everyone I know that had power or a generator had direct TV after hurricanes. Comcast had no service.

True, I just like the one time fee at dish network is $100 vs the $400 its gonna cost me from direct tv.

I do have to get comcast high speed cable though. $20 a month isnt bad

Curious though why does everyone hate comcast?

My parents have it an hour and a half north from Miami and the tv signal looks crisp and internet always works.

However the miami comcast review on yelp look awful, but then again who is gonna spend time writing positive reviews on a huge monopoly corp

I think DirecTV has the biggest lineup of HD channels; they were behind until they launched the HD satellite a year or two ago; pretty much everything we watch is in HD.

On the opposite end, Comcast and Dish have HD offerings. So their advertisements are something like "More HD offerings than Dish or DirecTV", etc etc. My interpretation of that is that they do not have nearly as many HD channels as DirecTV but they "offer" like 900 shows or on demand movies in HD [which DirecTV does as well].

Some people see it and get hooked "DirecTV only has 130 HD channels but Comcast has 500 things in HD"... not the same, i'd rather have my channels in HD than the option to watch spongebob on demand in HD.

just my two cents
.. and we got over the equipment prices; we paid $399 for our first HD DVR now they've dropped, and if you are a loyal and good customer they do nice like - our downstairs HD DVR was free

I would need more space then the Acurazine server's have to detail.
It's not really their service, although when they go down, they have no info on it when you call, & they are slow to fix it.
The customer service & general competence of comcast in FL is just terrible.
I'm going through some crap right now with them.

I don't watch a lot of TV, but when I do watch I want it in HD. So, I'm very happy with Dish's TurboHD Bronze package. For $40 a month, you get their VIP 722 2 TV (on HD one SD) DVR, a handful of HD channels, and HD locals for $40 a month. I've had it for a year and so far zero problems.

I really like comcasts setup/navigation, dish pisses me off whenever i'm at someones house and they have it.

comcast is like the mac of tv providers, so easy to navigate that a retard could do it. (and that isn't a bad thing)

Coral Gables doesn't have it yet

Thing is being renters I really dont want to be committed to 24 months with direct tv or dish network, and after pricing it out again, dish network or direct tv after one time costs etc really isnt much cheaper than Comcast's best plan.

All of them outsource for running wires through the wall and creating cable outlets etc, so I'll have to supervise them anyways.

That way I can do comcast for 6 months, hope uverse is here and then sign up with them.

Wow I'm super pissed. U-verse is available at the location literally 1 block north of me at the house on the same corner as me. It's literally maybe 500-1000ft away from me max, yet I can't get U-verse.

Car thing is nuts, basically should know more on Monday, but the original shop is probably going to run into some problems...the car itself is now at a state farm guarenteed repair shop right where I live, but no work can be done yet.

o. ok. i heard uverse is over rated. i dont really know.

in all honesty i hope you get ur ride back. if they total it, tell them you have aftermarket parts in which you would like to remove and put back stock ones. at least u can sell them and get something out of it

I've had both Dish and Direct TV.
the customer support of Direct TV is shit. once i called a tech out to install it he flat out told me he had no clue what he was doing. every month their fucking up my bill.
Dish is like a Mercedes compared to Direct.
never had Comcast so i can't comment on them. so good luck with whatever you go with.

I had Comcast for a couple of years before switching to DirecTV. I was very frustrated that Comcast in Miami has very few HD channels as you mentioned. Plus the DVR memory capacity sucked. The customer service was pretty retarded also. Even though they have local stores the line always takes forever (at least in Kendall). The picture quality colorwise was a little better than D* but too much macro blocking. In other words, if there was fast motion on the screen you would see little blocks blur the screen. I don't have this anymore. I was paying like $120 with all the digital/HD channels and only HBOs. Their on-demand is good because no network connection is required but had very few HD offerings for us at the time.

D* was more money up front if I wanted DVR's or HD-DVR's after the first free HD-DVR. I was pressed for cash so I got an HD-DVR and 2 regular shit boxes. If I want a DVR it's $100 or $200 for an HD-DVR. You can get HD-DVRs at Costco for $180 but you need the second line ran to use the dual tuner so you might as well buy from D* direct for free install.

Free install and free Sunday Ticket that year since I signed up through Costco 2 year contract. They didn't charge me to connect it in my daughter's room that had no cable jacks. Comcast wanted to charge me for that. I later called and bitched to get free Superfan (Sunday Ticket in HD with Red Zone channel in HD $100 value). Install was a bitch to set up as the local subcontractor is RETARDED . I later had to have them come back to re-adjust the dish as I was getting outages on cloudy days. That somewhat fixed it as I get outages on heavy rain but a reset fixes that; more on that later. On both visits they came at the wrong time so I was never there but someone else was.

I have all the movie channels now but didn't get some of the premium channels like HDNet Movies and Palladia nor all the RSN's (what's the point if you can't watch games and it's all the same programming) and I pay $160. I'd really like to know if I could hop on that $78/month deal that you get. I'll have my wife cook Peruvian food for you.

The HD-DVR box is slow as shit. We're talking like 5-10 second delay on button pressing. The remote for it works RF so you don't have to point at it. The reset if the power goes out takes like 15 minutes. If I want to swap it, I don't have to pay since I have the protection plan at $6/mo mandatory for 1 year. But I'll lose all the crap I have recorded. FYI, it's still slow at 50% capacity.

I've never dealt with Dish but right now they're programming is better for me because the have the HBOs and MAXs in HD unlike D* that only has HBO East, West and Max East and West in HD.

I was approached for UVerse but didn't have the channels I wanted. I've read about poor picture quality. Plus you want 3 HD-DVR's so the amount of data streams for all your rooms is lacking on what they can provide. Isn't it that you can only watch 2 HD programs live at the same time due to bandwith. You'll get a free ethernet wiring install throughout the house though.

I have Comcast in PA. I never had Dish Network or DirectTV. Most of the people I know that has Comcast bitch about it because of price and lack of HD channels. Most of the people I know that have Dish or DTV complain about the quality, and not having enough HD channels.

Do you live in a house or a apartment? I'm in a apartment building and Comcast is much better than DirecTV. DirecTV was constantly not working, and it would always take them forever to fix the problem. I then dumped DirecTV for Comcast and there are almost no disruptions to service, very reliable.

I've had DTV for over a year, and I still love it. There were some SNAFU's with the installer and billing initially, but once everything was worked out, I've had no problems. It goes out much less than my cable did (Time Warner). In fact, it's only gone out during two very severe storms, and even then for only about fifteen minutes. Every channel I care about is in HD, so I'm happy.

General consensus from what I've read

PQ: OTA, FIOS, Comcast, DTV, Dish.......UVerse

HD content: Dish (if you want movies), DTV (if you want Sunday Ticket), FIOS, UVerse, and Comcast vary by area..........................OTA is usually only locals

DVR: Dish by far. multi-room FTW, DTV, SA8300 from Comcast. I'm not sure on FIOS or UVerse

Service: they all suck ass

Again general consensus of reading many pages
