cheap lcd solution

im moving away for school in a few weeks, and im on a bit of a budget. i want a cheap, 26-32" lcd, so that i can drive it down with me instead of my 100+ pound 27" tube tv. i need a cheap, decent solution. the main function will be xbox 360 and watching football in the fall/winter. any direction as to where i can find a decent (im not expecting greatness for cheap) reliable tv and brand reccomendations would be great.

I don't usually like to recommend specific name brands, because I believe that one should choose a tv based on their own visual judgement. You'll find pluses and minuses in every brand. I know you're looking for a recommendation, so from what I've heard and seen from my friend's lcd tv and have read on the internet, I would recommend Westinghouse. They'll probably give you the most for your money in the lower price ranges. You can find models at Best Buy to see them in person, then price shop on the internet.

actually from what ive read i have been looking around at those... seems to be decent quality for low prices. now ive been googling and looking at various websites for low prices, can you (or anyone else) reccomend a site in particular that in general sells tvs for cheaper than most places? so far ive seen tigerdirect, been looking on new egg, but any reccomendations would be helpful.

It might help if you define how much $ "cheap" is to you. You could try refurbs too.

+1 for this answer.

+2 For Vizio. I have one in my dorm and they are GREAT TVs for the price. However UNCC does not have high definition so it wont be a great picture with cable. Your gaming system is going to look AWESOME though. Mine has 2 HDMI hook ups.

+3 on the Vizio... but you might want to check out your local Craig's List first... I (occasionally) see people selling their, practically new 20"-30" TVs with absolutely nothing wrong with them but because they realized later that the TV's too small for the living room and want to get something in the 46"+ size.

I recently bought a used 24" Sharp Aquos (mostly gaming) for $300 off CL, it's a couple years old but it's got a GREAT picture.

I have an Olevia at school. Believe its probably a 28", have to double check.
I use it while I'm home for the summer now.
On regular TV it looks good but with 360 in HD its sick.

I'm moving into a larger place this year so I'm probably going to sell this TV and get a larger one.

If your interested let me know, nice TV and I see your from nj

I agree with you; its not a direct comparison. However I think you can get a feel for what each maker emphasizes from that review. One might be better for certain functions like gaming and action movies and such while the other maybe better with dark images and black levels.

But you definitely have to read that review with the differing sizes in mind.

I was going to say, Vizio isn't that bad at all for the price.

im thinking of picking up a 32'' vizio lcd off craigs list for $350. Supposedly its in perfect condition and perfect working order, i will of course have it demonstrated for me upon picking it up. is the general opinion that im getting a good deal?

I would say go look at in person first. I would feel weird buying a used TV.

yeah, obviously check it out in person make sure you can see it working with some kind of HD source (HD cable box, PS3, Blu Ray player, at least HD upconverting DVD player)

like I said, buying a used TV isn't so bad, I bought a used 24" Sharp Aquos for gaming purposes and it was a good deal... the only thing I regret is not bargaining... I suck at it and probably could've gotten $50 off or something

the only things it will really be used for is my 360 and sporting events... ive had some experience with the vizios for gaming and it looks really nice... my only concern is that financially (provided everything works how its supposed to) am i getting a good deal on the tv... the model is L32.

FWIW, a new one runs about $600 at Costco.

just so you know, my last post, I... literally, was at Costco when I made it... (sitting in one of those demo massage loungers LOL)... anyway, the current 32" Vizio is $540. I notice the change with the trimming around the screen... and frankly, I don't think it was for the better, the older model looks better. And they've made it 3 HDMI inputs.... which you don't need.

Check out the other ads for the Vizio 32" and/or eBay and see what the going rate is... maybe offer him $300
