They're kind of unique.
I see SOOO many people with those, I wonder if they are any good.

Bose is overrated, but their larger speakers are pretty good as are the wave radios. Those tiny speaker 5.1 systems are complete shit IMO.

Funny, that's what I am doing now. But I am listening to some nice Jazz on my non-Bose Phase Technology speakers! I have highs and lows, must not be Bose.

I've seen a few Bose speakers at strip clubs that actually sounded really good. But besides that...

average person can get? not out of reach?

imo, the average person is one who what a 5.1 surround HTIB for less that 500 let alone a bose one for 2100. bose maybe a nice sounding 5.1 system (with little bass imo)

but you can make a nicer DIY system for the same amount of money with WAYYYY more connection. imo.

Bose for older, richer people who dont want the hassle

the headphones are nice for 99, decent isolation, etc but when i heard them, it has more bass and muffled highs. go for shures.

Stangg, there are many good speakers to be had, and some great ones too! Here is a good place to start the learning process: www.AVSFORUM.com - Speakers

Find a higher end audio store in your area, stop in and listen to some speakers. Just ask for the junior sales guy, let him know you need a new addiction, and could you listen to his three favorite sets of speakers. You can bring your own CDs and they will play them for you, since different speakers produce different kinds of sound, some warmer and some cold while others are flat and lifeless.

Once you stop listening to the speakers at giant box stores, you will begin to crave better sound. For $1500-$2000, you could get a great set of speakers, and maybe even a really good sub to go with!

I have the bose 10 series hooked up to my Onkyo receiver and it sounds badass cranked up. The subs literally shake the floor in my apt. I spent $799 for the speakers during last Christmas at aafes BX. It was a killer deal and couldn't resist.
