I think this is like asking a person who drives a Kia why he/she doesn't go buy a BMW. This is going to be difficult I guess.

More than you think. Watch any network show and it says available in high definition. Down here a local sponsor has a 2 second thing that says "Watch this high definition with a high definition TV from Brandsmart."

I saw a couple buy a VHS rewinder at BB the other day

Example, my grandmother is 80....recently bought a 50" plasma for her bedroom. I asked if she had called her company to get an HD box......her reply...."what's HD"

They know that high definition TV means better looking TV. They don't understand it in the sense that upconverted SD is not real HD. If you tell them a high definition DVD vs a regular DVD, they'll understand that the high def DVD is probably "better" than a SD DVD but just won't know how and why. My point being that HD DVD means better DVD to a normal consumer (under 65 likely since nobody markets to retirees in consumer electronics, so your 80 yr old grandma doesn't count CLpower ) where as Blu Ray might mean a video game, computer program, or something other than a high def DVD. That's just my marketing opinion. I think it will take longer for people to understand what a Blu Ray movie is instead of an HD DVD had Toshiba won.

This was an argument that was way back when all this started.

And people don't understand a lot more then how or why. People don't understand that HD doesn't just mean one thing. People dont get 720p, 1080i, 1080p. People dont get component vs hdmi (and resolutions are supported within each.) People dont get a lot of things.

I can't begin to tell you how many people think that the switchover in 2009 will make all the signals HD. I keep telling them it is only the switch from analog to digital, but they are convinced that everything will be HD....

I doubt they'll go that low.

I purchased over 30 HD DVD's for a little under $250 in one single shot. Once I buy a complete BD player come 3rd quarter. Maybe even a PS3 (for movies) if prices are lower. I wouln't want to pay $25-30 each for the same movies when they come out on Blu.

btw, my HD DVD library is currently at 82 movies. and I haven't spent more than what the first gen/early adopters paid for thei BD/HD standalone player.

Do you really think HD DVD movie stock would last that long? After March players will be done except for any dual format players. I can't see movies lasting til the end of the year if the hardware isn't out there for 'new suckers' to purchase.

I think there will be a surplus to some degree. And if there is a sweet deal to be had, awesome. If not, no big deal.

Heck, I'm tempted to sell my xbox add on. I have a Toshiba HD-A30, so the add on is boxed away.

If anyone is interested, I'll put it up for sale in the blackmarket section.

Is it true that Toshiba HD-DVD players make really good upconverting players for standard DVD?

Yes, depending on the model. I think my A3 is slightly better than my PS3. And it's a little more convenient to use since a can control my Toshiba with a universal remote and the A3 is quieter than my PS3

HD-DVD for the Xbox via HDMI is WAY better then my Sammy BR player. It really really good because of the scaler chip MS uses.

Eh. I'm more wooting over the fact that I can get Megan Fox on high-def now.

But, sure. I don't mind watching some ugly robots fight around onscreen either.
