Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD?

The question now is: Wait for a good profile 2.0 player to come out (yes, I'm one of those weirdos who actually enjoys bonus features), or get a PS3?
I'm not a game player at all - The only thing I play on my xbox 360 is rock band. :P

A couple of things I thought worthy of mentioning...
We don't know the quality of the cable signal... SNR (signal to noise ratio) or BEC error correction blocks. Both of which could effect the outcome of the cable video quality.
We don't know the bit rate/compression levels of the MPEG-2 cable stream
The compression levels they were using was crushing the color gamut. Color was way off. It also dropped detail level a ton.
I'd like to see a comparison with another cable provider and known signal levels.

Cable aside it's a good comparison for Apple TV and Bluray. I was sort of impressed at the AppleTV quality. It's in between DVD resolution and HD.

I'm somewhat surprised at the AppleTV too, I really didn't expect iTunes HD and it's crappy bitrates to surpass DVD quality. I imagine the cable HD was HD on demand, which I always find to be awful looking compared to broadcast HD.

What's sorta disconcerting is you can see the detail differences even on low-res photos... It's not like we have some 12Mp camera shots to compare.
So it's another HD lite product
Although looking at the last pics it does seem to keep up on low motion video OK.

Blu-ray Disc Wal-Mart has confirmed with Blu-ray.com that beginning in June the world's largest retailer will only stock Blu-ray players and movies. Over the next few months, they will phase out all HD DVD products and reorganize their stores to focus on Blu-ray. This move comes days after similar statements of support for Blu-ray by Internet movie rental site Netflix and retailer Best Buy.
Gary Severson, senior vice president, Home Entertainment, Wal-Mart, U.S. commented, "We've listened to our customers, who are showing a clear preference toward Blu-ray products and movies with their purchases. With the customers best interest in all we do, we wanted to share our decision and timeline with them as soon as possible, knowing it will help simplify their purchase decision, increase selection, and increase adoption long term. We anticipate enhancing our selection with continued great values in hi-definition Blu-ray products, so our customers can further enhance their entertainment experience at home."
This is just the latest in a series of shifts towards either Blu-ray support or exclusivity since Warner Brothers announced in January that they would go Blu-ray exclusive in June.

Given that both look pretty much the same quality-wise, I guess what this ultimately says is that in this day and age, it's not cost-effective for two such formats to co-exist. If we could find any reason to go either way, I would say the storage capacity of BD (50GB) is the biggest advantage. The triple layer possibility of HD-DVD is pretty far-fetched.
