For movies I think the ideal refresh rate is 24fps. That is the rate at which the movie is displayed at the theater. If you are trying to get your home theater system to replicate as much as possible the movie going experience then 24fps is the number you want. For games, I think you would want as high a refresh rate as possible that can be supported by your hardware.

again, 24fps is 24 frames per second...its the framerate the film was shot in. And I even typically turn that feature off as well. But I haven't played with it enough to know if helps or hurts.
Sarlacc, what would be the best way to play the new Batman in Blue-Ray? The ps3 can display it in 24fps or 60hz and my Tv has a Film mode (24fps). I have watched it in 60hz and it looks stunning, but what is the benefit of watching it in 24fps?
But I can not answer your question without having done tests watching it with my own eyes.
I'd probably turn everything off on your TV and run 24fps on your PS3. Let me know how that looks.
I had to shut the feature off again last night even while watching TV. So I guess that tells us it does actually work for sports as it does speed things up. Just hard to detect I suppose.
The two current Kuro Elite models are listed as 72 Hz which will give you a 3:3 pulldown (3x multiplier) for 24p input.
