Window Questions

My buddy just got new windows in his condo (same complex/layout as mine)
Its basically 4 large slider windows and a sliding balcony door. These are large size (custom? the balcony door is whole height of the apt–96 inches tall).

Now, since he got his brand new as of yesterday, why the hell is the air flowing in between all the sliders? thats how my windows are now and mine are 30 years old. He paid $5k for that job and we both got like 3 estimates between us for $5-$6.5k(HomeDepot) so we know that that wasnt a one-off lowball price. I hope that that isnt the case with new windows, to "expect" them to leak like that??

Yeah that's definitely not right. My parents just had their windows replaced and they seal well. I was over there at Christmas and it was nice and warm inside w/o the heater even being on.

Can you be a little more specific as to were they are leaking, is it just the windows or the door too?

It can be something as simple as missing some weather strip.

They are leaking where the two sliders (windows and door) meet.

Actually, the top and bottom corners where the the two sliders meet.

How many stories is the building? If it is a mid rise building, the window might not have been designed for applications that high.

There should be some type of weather strip were the two meet. Also check installation, if they are put in out of square, that can cause them to leak. Definatley call the installer and let him know and see what he says.

9 times out of 10 a leaky window = poorly installed.
