do you want to be able to see through one side of the door/window? if not, i would go with a frosted film... they sell all different types and designs at HD... i used this for the window in my shower....

I just want the visibility from outside to be reduced without reducing the amount of light coming into the house if I open the front door and leave the storm door close.

I bought this privacy kit from Lowes and it works great.
As a novice, I was able to put it on myself.
The only downside is it does scratch/nick if you hit, as I guess any film would

hhmm...i guess I have to look into that. Didn't know lowes sells privacy films. Also is like an automotive tint? I know GILA makes em too.

Anyone ever tried 3M security film? Considering of installing it on the sliding door. I heard it's expensive.

While I haven't used security film, the videos online and that show 'it takes a thief' make it look incredible. I would def look into it more for safety

Bought and installed the "mirrored" film from GILA. I ended up taking it off as it made the house look "ghetto." Might go with frosted film like what Kamlung had suggested.

The frosted is what I used. I have a whole roll of 3m mirrored tint from a pharmacy, but didn't use it for that reason. Frosted is the way to go
