Whats Wrong With My Thermostat?

i have it set on "heat" and on "auto" set to around 64 degrees, but the thing never turns off now. I replaced the original with the exact same one, but now the heater runs non-stop unless i turn it off manually. All wires were labeled and hooked up exactly like the old one. Not sure what to do.....

What was wrong with the original one?

Could the new one be broken?
Are you positive you hooked the wires up correctly?
Are any of the wires touching each other or the other contacts?

Sounds like the temp sensor is bad-thinks it's colder than it really is.

a late night stumble down the hallway with no lights on is what happened to the first one. 225lbs. against a piece of plastic didn't work out to well.

anyway, i checked it out again and I noticed there was a piece of metal bent that some sort of sensor looks like it should be touching. i bent it back to shape so the sensor touches it again, maybe it will work?

They're great and they're cheap cheap cheap now. Get one and you'll never go back.

I replaced mine like that with a programmable unit when I moved in here. The old one must have been original and 35+ years old. It has mercury in it and I keep forgetting to take it to the dump.
