What do you do with OLD appliances

Thinking of changing out all my appliances for a kitchen upgrade. If you have done this, what did you guys do with the old appliances? Hate to toss them since they are all in good working condition... Fridge I can probably put in the garage or basement and use as a secondary fridge/freezer.

My fridge was giving to my father. The dishwasher was toast. Washer/dryer and stove was taking by the company that I purchased new from. They gave us some kind of credit, wasn't much, but I don't have room to keep old until I could sell.

I see people of the wanted board of craigslist looking for these all of the time.

You could also contact your local Habitat for Humanity.

Donate 'em if they are still useable, no need to let them go to waste.

Habitat will take them as will Goodwill and a number of others.

Depending on age of the units, there are some recyclable metals in it that would be of $value to metal yards. For example if it contains cooling coils made of copper you could get a couple of bucks a pound for the copper. It would involve a sawzall and a bit of effort, but part out the metals and throw the rest out...

My mom put a "Free Sofa" on craigslist one time. She placed the add at 11pm, went to bed, and woke up in the morning to over 300 messages! Eek. Definitely stick it on craigslist.

DO NOT DO THIS. Opening a closed system and releasing freon into the air is not a smart thing to do. There is not enough copper to even warrant trying this. I hope you were kidding.

I guess I should have clarified... Get a refrigerant guy to come by and reclaim the coolant... And it really only applies to very old fridges/freezers - like 1940-1970
