GE Profile appliances
GE Profile appliances
On an impulse (very unlike me), and because of a really good deal, I put a deposit down on a bunch of GE Profile appliances (fridge, range, dishwasher). Now I've done a little research and I have found alot of unhappy GE customers. It seems that they may break down often and parts are expensive. But you know how it is, people only post about a product when they have a problem with it.
So I thought I was ask kthe question here, before I go get my refund
Anyone have GE or GE profile appliances and what has your experience been?

Originally I was looking at (about to purchase) GE Profile, but then I realized they are in many instances... overpriced.
"High-end" brands/appliances are not much more expensive... overall.
The key is to consider the cost of the ENTIRE package, not individual items on their own. GE seems to mark up some items way more then they should cost while under-cutting on others... making them seem very affordable.
All that said, I think GE Profile and GE Monogram are both good lines of appliances. Profile seems to be what ALOT of people are buying these days, so the complaints your seeing may just be a numbers game... high rate of failures in comparison to other brands but only because its a much higher rate of sales in comparison to other brands.

I've had a dishwasher fail that was only a few years old. The inlet valve froze in the open position. That means that water freely flowed into the unit, even when it was off. My wife found water pouring out of the machine. If we weren't at home it would have flooded the house. I fixed it myself. I got the part on eBay. It was pretty cheap.
At my current house I have a small QC problem with my range. After we ran a self clean on the oven a small piece of porcelain came off of one of the air inlets. It apears that the metal had some rust on it when they applied the porcelain finish. So I'm not too impressed with their QC, that piece of metal should have never been used. I plan on calling GE about them replacing the piece under warranty.
Another QC issue I had was with a new dishwasher I recently purchased. The unit is white, yet it contained one black screw on the base plate. It can't be seen unless you look under the unit, but it pisses me off because it should have been white like all the others. The lazy ass that put it together must have ran out of white screws.
If you do a search on AZ you should be able to find a thread I had about my dishwasher valve problem.
Other than the above issues I've been happy with the units performance.

Ya, its not quite that high though. Its like $200 for 3 appliances. I might use that money to get an extended store warranties or something. Havent decided if they are worth it yet.

If I'm not mistaken, there was a recall related to the dishwasher valve.

I like GE's french-door fridge, however, it's not available in counter-depth... main reason I didn't go with the GE over the Amana.

I'm sure you could do the same.
I talked to more sales people at 2 different stores yesterday and am feeling more comfortable with my GE purchase. Apparently the fridge is made by (or in conjunction with) LG, and the LG fridges have been getting great reviews. Also, GE profile stoves are supposed to be top notch (in that price range of cource).
We'll see
Now I am debating whether or not to upgrade my range with one oven and one warming rack, to a range with two ovens. Its about $100 more I think.

In the price range, GE is actually fairly over priced.
Now, don't get me wrong, they make solid stuff... but not at retail prices. I'd negotiate a significant discount as GE's Profile products have a rather high profit margin.
At their retail prices, they tip-toe on the tails of the "high end" luxury brands.
Do yourself a favor before you decide on anything and price out your "dream" appliances before settling on GE.
I think you'll find there's not much difference in price (also remember the more expensive the product the more you can negotiate off). I saved several thousand dollars on my appliances simply through negotiations.
I'm confused, you keep mentioned "range" but are talking about adding another oven and 2 warming drawers?
Are you buying a big dual unit range or do you have wall-mounted ovens with a seperate cooktop?

I have GE Profile everything, minus washer and dryer.
The microwave and stove are fine. No issues.
The dishwasher... Came with a fucking leak in the liner. After the first couple of washes, we noticed water on the floor. Took two weeks to get a replacement.
The fridge... I hate it. The compressor in it is so fucking loud, it sounds like we have a family of crickets in the kitchen. GE has been out twice and found it to be normal??!!??
Nothing we can really do, I guess. Frustrating considering the $$$ we spent on everything.
Oh well.

Sounds like what I'm experiencing... GE has told me twice it's normal.

Dual oven -> http://www.geappliances.ca/jsp/ge_Fe...=2&cmb_641=---
Warming drawer -> http://www.geappliances.ca/jsp/ge_Fe...=2&cmb_641=---
I am debating between these 2
Very surprising about the fridge.
My fridge just makes a "buzz" noise for like 3 seconds every hour or so... I don't know wtf it is... but the manual says its normal. Something to do with ice maker I think? Who knows.

It looks more built in without the console on top.

We're I you, I'd get whichever you can get cheaper. I'd bet you'll never ever use that second drawer on the floor... just like nobody ever uses their broiler unless they are a cooks cook.
What is the salesman asking you for those items? Assuming it's under $1900 or so, $300 off on top doesn't sound too bad.

There is something about the GE models that doesn't sit right with me, the reason I thought they were manufactured in-house is because they have some very large differences from all the other LG-made brands. Most of the differences seem to move slightly down-market, like they're stripped or something.
If you're worried about all your appliances "looking the same", most of these fridges have all the same handle mounts... so you can just buy the GE handles to plop on your LG fridge... voila... it looks like a GE.
