Can you take some pictures?
There are products on the market, but most are non-slective so they'll kill anything. However, depending on the grass you might be able to find something that is selective to apply. But it all depends on what you got.

MSMA is a great selective killer for bermuda , and is good for flowers, killes St Augustine and a variety of weeds, but you may want to do a bit of research.

I can't really make much out from those pics...
Have to tried going over to scotts.com or ortho.com?
They have online pics and help you diagnose what you have. I just can't make it out.
Sorry.

I reccomend gasoline.
Seriously, there used to be a product on the market that killed everything (including your grass too unfortunately) for a very long time. The only way to have stuff grow in a treated spot again was to dig out several feet deep of earth and replace the dirt. My cousin has some, but I forget the name - it was outlawed cuz it worked a little too well.

They won't know shit...
I'm sure you have a local nursery/garden center local to you. Take it there. Home Depot won't have a clue.

If you want to go cheap, bleach kills all. It will also kill whatever little critters that are living in your ground too. That is good and bad. For instance, you want to have earth worms.

I would seriously investigate a selective herbicide before dumping gas and/or bleach. If you're looking to "kill" it, just use roundup. No long term soil effects, at least... Not to mention, dumping gas like doopstr said is HIGHLY illegal.

Yes, it works. And works very well.
However, Roundup is NON-SELECTIVE. It will kill any type of plant material. Grasses, perrenials, shrubs. It doesn't give a shit.
Be careful how and when you apply it.
