Water Treatment possibilities for condo dweller
Reverse osmosis?
Under the sink only?
Space is extremely limited. Mainly interested in better tasting tap water. We currently use a brita filter but it isnt as good as our friend's tap water (they have a salt based system).
Any systems on amazon.com that would work well for our needs?

I've had this RO unit for about 4 years now:

I just change the 3 main filters once per year. Water comes out perfectly clean. Its more then paid for itself in bottle water costs over the years...
The tank and filter unit fit just fine under the sink. Pretty easy to hook up too.

I have a dual filter GE system we got from Home Depot a few years ago for about $100. We change the filters about every 9 months (they say 6, but we don't drink that much water) for about $50-60. It's pretty compact and has worked well for us. I couldn't find it one the HD site, but we got the one with the yellow filters.
Here's the link at GE:

Edit: I think we bought the set with a lower quality filter and replaced the filters with the higher quality ones when the originals needed to be changed.

We have the same system and it works great! We had our water tested in December and our tap water was cleaner than the Deer Park bottled water I had sitting in the fridg.

Just put a Pur filter on your kitchen sink faucet.

But water hardness doesn't make water smell or taste bad. I'd be more concerned with metals (lead, mercury, etc) , chemicals (chlorine, etc) and any sediments or organics.
