Where are you located at? If you are from Cali then I might able to find you a deal...My parents got pretty deal through a local store.

Have you looked at anything else other than Viking? My parents also wanted to get everything Viking, but ended up changing their mind. We got Sub-zero refrigerator and Bosch dishwasher instead of Viking. I heard that Sub-zero is more well known for refrigerator so you might want to check that out.

If you're looking at high-end appliances I would check out other brands.

Bosch and Miele for dishwashers in particular. I've heard Viking and Subzero aren't what they used to be.

I was looking at Consumer Reports and the Viking was one of the most expensive, but least relaible. You can join CR online for a couple bucks a month. I usually join for the month and then cancel it when I've done all my research.

If you're looking to spend that kind of dough, mix and match the brands...no one brand is best in all of those categories for that $$, you might as well buy the best.

From what I've read, the following are generally considered leaders in their respective category:

Microwave = ?
Range = Viking
Fridge = Liebherr (sp?)
Oven = Meile
Dishwasher = Fisher & Pykel
Hood = ?

Also, every city has scratch and dent retailers, even for high end appliances. Look around and you will find $1k's off.

Good luck!

Most of the high end or not as reliable as standard models.
People are looking for a specific style, so the are willing to sacrifice quality.
Sometimes it's a pain in the to get service.

We have a Viking range, hood and refrigerator, Meile dishwasher and GE Monogram Advantium speed oven/microwave. Have had all for about a year and a half without any problems. We did purchase extended warranties on all of them.

For most of these high-end brands the dealers are allowed to sell below retail, however the manufacturers set hard limits on how much, and it could be based on that dealer's volume. When we shopped around (in MD) most places offered nearly the same "discounted" price. But you won't find any package deals, even if you go all the same brand. The play room the dealer has is no where near what it is with say major brands like GE.

Sorry I can't help out with info in North Cali.

My friends mom just did a remodel on the entire house; I have to say i'm completely in love with her fridge.. Sub-Zero side by side; but the fridge has a huge glass window and seperate sliding drawers below

I like the new GE Cafe line; they have a fridge, dishwasher, hood, range, etc.. I think when I move i'm going to go for the following setup

- LG side by side fridge w/ LED lighting in side; slide out freezer drawer on bottom
- GE Cafe Gas Range w/ Convection Oven
- LG Dishwasher
- GE Cafe OTR Microwave [touch screen]

Miele dishwasher is awesome. Not as quiet as some of the other brands but I hardly notice it is on.
