Update and Remodel Pics

A bunch of years ago we bought a really nice house on a quiet cul-de-sac. We have done some basic stuff like update paint, carpet and appliances. We had to redo our basement due to a water leak.

This year we decided to start on the powder room and hallway. I had some time at home due to COVID.

Old Hallway - The walls were a tan color and so were the ceilings. The trim was as well but we painted those when we moved in.

New Paint. Much brighter. We also did the light fixtures.

Old powder room. This room was green and gold when we bought the house. It was a sponge paint job. We quickly changed the paint. Everything was changed with the exception of the lights. Those will get done down the road. The sink was coming apart from the countertop. It really needed to get done.

The previous owner really liked construction adhesive. He also installed the floor after the vanity and didn't put boards under the vanity. Luckily he saved a lot of scrap wood so I was able to complete the floor under the vanity.

New wall color. Ceiling went white too.

Finish product. Looks like I need to have an alignment done on my camera angle.

Vanity was tough to find. Most of the box stores had shit. We ended up finding this one at a specialty store on closeout. Saved us a ton.

The door was a pocket door so I needed to take that out as well. It allowed me to adjust the hang of it so it now closes properly. One of the kids will knock it off the rails though. It's a matter of time.

The work spilled out into our front door. We had 5 different hardware and needed to try to get it updated. When we moved in we did not have a dead bolt. The old handle was so OLD that it was pear shaped. No replacement was found. We ended up installing a Schlage key pad deadbolt and handle set. The outside handle covered the old opening. I have a buddy that cut me a piece of sheet metal to cover the inside. He will eventually get the edges rounded and powder coat it for us. We are also eventually going to paint the door.

Next project will be painting the door. Then we start on the mud room.

Nice work. The bathroom turned out great. Amazing how just some new matching hardware changed that front door too.

That looks great! Nice work!

You can get some spray paint that matches the oiled bronze color of the door knob from HD and paint it to match in the mean time if you want. Might look nice that way.

Also, we have the same sink/counter/faucet combo in our basement lol. It's on the short list to end up in the trash this summer.

Agreed. The door itself is pickled. We will be painting it. We were thinking of a gray. Not sure yet. It was really tough because the old lock was so large. I just didn't want to replace the door.

Thanks. Thought about that but I figured it is on the inside and I can hold off til we get it powder coated.

That's crazy that you have the same vanity setup. Did you not like it? I am not thrilled with the faucet output.

Definitely. We have a lot of extra paint for the mudroom and for my office.

A grey would not be bad. I assume you want it to be different than the color of your trim compared to it matching right now? What color are your shutters? You could always match it to that as well.

We will paint the trim white to match the trim around all the windows. The door trim is the only one that is tan. The shutters are maroon. We don't want to paint it the same as the shutters. Too much red in the brick to paint the door maroon.
