Tiling Question
Tiling Question
There's a crew at my place doing demo right now for some tile work. We're doing the entry, kitchen, dining area, hallway and bathrooms.
In the current kitchen, the tile only goes in a few inches under the dishwasher, then it's just bare concrete. I was going to do the same with the new tiles, but my father says I should go all the way back. It's only another ~ 5 sf, so it's not a cost issue.
What did/would you do?

Instructions were given to go all the way under. Though, the cheering to go all the way might inspire the need to post in D&R after tonight
The real PITA is the cable. Since it's a condo built in '69 (
x2), the cable was added after construction. It runs under the living room carpet and gets split to the living room and master bedroom. Well, it needs to cross the tile to get to the bedroom, so I'm having them notch the slab just enough to get the cable across a jamb. Not the best way to do it, but being on the first floor with radiant heat in the ceiling doesn't lend itself well to doing anything else.
BTW, demo made one mell of a hess!! Dust everywhere. At least that is mostly done - other than the master bath. They should have a majority of the tile laid today, then grout tomorrow, once we decide on a color.
More information you didn't ask for - the tiles are 13" with 1/16 spacers all in standard grids. We thought about doing diagonals in the master bath, but the tiles are too big/bathroom too small and it wouldn't look right.

Well, the main work is done and overall it looks pretty good. However, there were some issues that need to be discussed/resolved with the contractor before they get paid.
