Termite fumigation

We are considering fumigating the house. How safe is it? I believe it doesn't prevent them from coming back, but at least it will be thorough.

I understand you want to wrap all your food in plastic and store it, but I'm paranoid. Will probably let the house air out for a few more days beyond the company's recommendation.

If there are other alternatives, I'm all ears.

If they aren't going to inject poison into the ground I don't think that you can expect a complete kill and they will be back sooner than you think. You really want them gone because they chew on your house long before you notice them. When you go to sell your house you need to declare previous termite damage so might as well do it correctly.

Get your food out of the house. Those fumes kill shit, you don't want that in your food.

My parents had their home treated for termites a few years back. One thing about termites is by the time you actually notice them, they've already done damage. In the living room we kept seeing a bunch of "ants w/ wings" flying around the house. Pulled back the curtain and there they was flying around the window on the inside of the house. Termites had chewed a tiny hole in the corner of the window through the drywall and I went and got some bug spray and attached the straw, and sprayed inside the hole for a few seconds. Literally thousands and thousands of termites flew from the outside of the window and under the vinyl siding away from the house. They covered the cars and everything. Even had to take windex and clean the inside of the living room windows because of how many had died. My mind was blown at the amount of termites I was actually seeing fly away from the house.

We called a local pest control company and the guys came out and drilled some holes in the foundation (around the living room windows) and took the overflow cover off in the tub in the bathroom and injected some type of poison. Never seen them in the house since. I did learn that termites live underground for a good while and the colony can be huge. We had subterranean termites. Last spring I noticed a bunch of them flying out of the ground in my Mom's backyard and the neighbors yards. So I knew the colony was extremely huge. Easily covered 2-3 acres since you could actually see them flying out of the ground 2-3 house down from ours. Most people hear have their pest control company come out yearly and treat their home to keep pests away. We've yet to take down the drywall in the living room to assess the damage though. From what I'm getting at are you getting your home tented?
