I would go with the base... Seems silly not to given the characteristics of the mattress.

I'm sure there are some legitimate complaints, but what company doesn't have warranty complaints. Also, I've heard that getting a Tempurpedic with AirFlow system helps with the heat issues. The Original model doesn't have that.
