Sleep Number Bed?

I've only slept on one once at a Marriott, but my wife keeps seeing the damn commercials and asking to get one. Anyone own one of these things?

All I know is they're fucking expensive as hell.

My friends bought a Sleep Number bed and love it. I considered it but opted for a Tempurpedic.

I've heard, ie. don't really know, that they are made quite cheaply for the price you are paying.

Have owned one for 4 years. Honestly, they're a bit overrated.

When we moved, we put the queen in the Princess suite. Got a King size tempur-pedic mid-grade for the Master, cuz the wifey is preggers. Think it was about $3800ish - very comfortable.

Can't stand 'em. Have slept on them in hotels only -- didn't know people actually bought these things. Save yourself a ton of money and buy a queen sized air mattress at a camping shop...it's essentially the same thing. It's literally an air mattress with controls, that's all.

I can see it now with his wife sitting on the air mattress and him armed with his air pump asking her if it feels right yet.

Errr.....yeah.

Susan of Rocky Hill CT (01/13/08)
I purchased a Select mattress 4 years ago, and I love the comfort of it; however I end up in the middle, and as I roll to either side feel like I am going up hill. Also I've had chambers and foam replaced, but every morning I have to unzip and hold a hair dryer to it as the chambers are all wet in the middle. I have to take a vacuum cleaner to puff up the pillow top in the middle. This was at their suggestion when I complained about slump in the middle.

if you want a poor mans sleep number, go to walmart and get an camping, air bed. Fill up to appropriate firmness and mark as number X. your done... Seriously, its just an overated air bed. Spend your money on the tempurpedic, my bro got one and he loves his. He sleeps well to, before on his spring mattress, his back would hurt after he injured it, but he now says he sleeps soundly.

Do teh tempur beds simply just replace the boxspring and mattress?

Looks like a huge price differential in the various models...

Yeah in my research for a new bed everything I read said the sleep number was an overrated air mattress. I didn't want to deal with that.

I have no complaints on my iso form I got the beginning of January.

Hate them. Hotels only here too but if you're sleeping with your sig other and your number is vastly different from theirs, you might as well have bunk beds. the elevation levels are that different

^^^^^^

Doesn't look like you can only order them direct, no stores to test??? How did you decide to go with this company over the tempur?

I researched the net for user reviews. A few members here have 1 as well.
So far I like it's. It's a bit strange at 1st.
I did try out a few copies at local stores just to see what those were like.

And I did try the tempur. I did not like it.

DJ Scrib, tempur mattress can be had without a boxspring.

The price differential you are looking at relates to the amount of "tempur" material. The cheaper ones have only one inch (if I'm not mistaken), and the rest of the mattress material is a different kind of foam. The higher priced tempurs have 2inch, 3inch yada yada - you get the drift.

As I said before, we've had the sleep number for four plus years (still have it in the spare bedroom), but after we got the tempur - theres simply no comparison.

Interesting. So you tried the tempur, did not like it, yet bought another tempur-like bed that you could not try in stores...

What is the difference between the two that you find better with the isoform?

That's the rap inner-spring mattress guys try to pitch. But in my experience, it has been fine (and I'm the one who always complains it's too hot/wifey too cold).

As long as you have a nice mattress cover, you can't feel the difference.

I hate sounding like a salesman, but it is a great investment in you.

Sorry wrong bed, I read that as sleep number
The Tempu was fine, just too much $. After the reviews I read I opted for the iso form.
As for as hot. I hate heat. The bed has a cover & you have a sheet on top of that. I have no problems with heat.

Sounds like these things help with sleep... But what about things other than sleep, such as ? Any issues in that department?

I've been reading up on the tempur beds and the reviews are mixed. Many people are complaining about the memory portion of the mattress wearing out within just a couple of years and being overly hot. And when people try to claim the bed on a warranty issue (20-year according to tempur), they're basically told 'sorry'...

Doesn't sound good.

^^^Most of the stories I've heard about warranty problems are because people violate the terms of the warranty by placing the mattress on a standard box spring or a futon frame. You can't do that, and it says so in the manual.

None of the reviews I've read have stated whether they were using the tempur base or not... I would assume that most were, though...

I would go with the base... Seems silly not to given the characteristics of the mattress.
