Should I pay for my garage?
Should I pay for my garage?
The townhomes I live at have garages that are attached, but can only be had for a small fee.. $200/month.
This garage in particular is right under my townhome, and would be really nice.
Anybody pay this kind of money, every month, to park their car in a nice, warm garage?

Are you renting or do you own the townhome?
If you are renting, this is not uncommon, as the renter wants as high an occupancy level as they can get, garages included. Rent it if you want a garage, if not don't.
If the noise from the garage bothers you when someone else enters/leaves, find a different apartment.

Don't say "warm garage" unless you know it is heated.
If you live in a climate that includes harsh winters and snow and ice that you'd have to clear from your car every day, I'd be inclined to pay the additional fee and use the garage - but only for December thru March. If you're tight on money or have a long-term goal of saving for something more significant, I'd put that money into savings and just deal with parking outside. However, I will say that additional cost completely sucks unless you have cheap rent without the garage. Ouch. I've never had the luxury of parking in a garage, so I'm used to clearing the car and the snow's not too bad, the ice sucks...
Is the garage big enough to store other stuff or to work in, or is it just big enough for a parking space?

where is the op, many unanswered questions here....
if you own and they are charging for garage space thats fucked. And lets be more specific, is this a closed garage with an entrance into your town home or is it a carport ??? big difference, which is it?

Sorry guys, thanks for the responses!
There are three separate garages, all under my living quarters, under my townhome, and one is available right now. But basically, yes, someone else can and does park under my house lol. It's not loud, and can only hear it when you're in the kitchen area.. So I know when my neighbor is home.
I guess if someone had it in for me, and they had access to the garage, they would then be able finish my life by leaving their car on... Actually, I don't think it'd work, but haven't checked out the garage enough to know. I think I would be OK cuz I have carbon monoxide detectors, and also because the garage should have something to take the fumes out.. I would think. Since you be able to kill yourself in the garage, but I thought they kinda fixed those problems with garages assisting in suicides.
Rent. Great price. Great location.
Yeah, the garage isn't actually heated or anything. It'd just be warmer than the outside, at least a little bit, I hope.... Yes, the garage does have some room on the front, maybe another 5 or 6 feet, but not much on the sides. I guess I can store some tools and such, which would be pretty neat.
Sorry for the delay haha... So do not own, I rent. And the garage is a closed garage. They have de-tached garages, too, which are 150 a month, but the 50 dollars cheaper is because you need to walk outside for about 20 seconds or so.. lol. So basically the 200/month fee allows me to park directly in the building, under my home, and without having to endure the elements outside. So I'd have no need to wipe my feet really... thus attached garage.

I've got to think that for 200 a month, it's not worth it if you can park for free in the lot. I myself own a townhouse and specifically wanted one with a garage. But 200 seems crazy to me.
I would say it would be worth it to me, which is why when I purchased my house my main requirement was a garage. I love the extra storage space and my Acura sleeps in the garage.
I think what I'm gonna do is snatch up this garage for next month and April (2 month minimum requirement).. Then just park out in the lot for the rest of the year until probably November. Then hopefully get the same garage again and rent it out for the next 6 months until April.. basically the cold winter type months... I guess you gotta pick your luxuries in life and a garage would be great, if only for half the year lol.... The summertime I could deal, but the winter time, and cleaning off my car and whatnot, would be worth the 200/month to me I guess..
note to self: buy an apt complex in the future, to rent out, and watch your income grow like crazy.. charging people left and right for the little things....

$200/month for lets say 300 square feet of enclosed space in MA? Sounds like a good deal. How much is the rest of the space in terms of $/month/sqft?
And for the naysayers--I think it is kind of nice to make the garages optional--if you don't want it you don't have to pay for it.

Yeah, it's an optional thing. So there are probably a few garages in the complex not even being used by residents. My rent SHOULD be just over $2,000/month for just shy of 1300 sq. ft. of living space, but unlike the other residents, I don't pay quite that much... But sshhhhhhhhhhh!
