Our new (to us) house came with a DSC alarm system that is outfitted pretty nicely (all doors have sensors, and all but one room has a motion), but no obvious signs of any previous service (there is a cable for phone, but it's never been connected). I'm interested in getting service for it. I've done some Googling around and have come across inexpensive monitoring options (like this: Alarm Monitoring Services Only $8.95 per Month from Alarm Relay).

We do have a land line (VoIP), and I'm perfectly capable of running the necessary cabling, but I'd prefer the monitoring service to be over a separate cellular link if not cost prohibitive.

Are the $9/mo monitoring services a good deal, or do you get what you pay for?
