Alrighty, time for an update!
So we had a water line leak in the basement that damaged the carpet in the area as well as all the cabinets in the bar area. Rather than replace with the same stuff, we decided it's time to remodel.
The plan is to move the bar to where the TV is currently at (TV is in a smaller space) and the TV to where the bar used to be (larger space) to accommodate a big fucking TV in the near future. New PVC wood look plank flooring going down to replace the damaged carpet so that it won't ever require maintenance or have issues with water in the future.
Pics of damage and things starting to get ripped out.
Plan for this weekend is to grab some new tile, cabinets, flooring, and get the space entirely cleaned up and prepped. Hope to also get the wall repaired and primed for paint so the wife can get some color on the wall. Old countertop and cabinets were put on c-list for free and gone within 20 minutes lol.

Progress!
Ripped out all the old damaged stuff, prepped the floor, repaired the walls, installed new flooring, and started to move stuff into the space. All that's left in this area now is to run the speaker wires to the back of the room, replace the outlets with white ones, and put the trim back on the walls. This is section one of two, the bar area build started yesterday. More pics soon!

Thanks! Yeah it was a bummer to move up our schedule to remodel but such is life. At least this forces us to actually do it lol. I also got rid of more crap on c-list for free. Beats paying for a dumpster.
It's really not that hard to do a lot of things, just need to learn where to draw the line and call in the pros. For a lot of the really labor intensive procedures, they are super easy. When it gets to gas, water, electric, etc...you might want a pro though many of those procedures are easy too. If you have questions, just ask and I'd be happy to help. Also, youtube is your friend for everything.
The tools for the flooring here consisted of a utility knife plus spare blades, ruler, straight edge, tap block, rubber mallet, time, and beer. I bet you could buy all that for ~$50 which is half of what you'd pay a pro per hour.
Nope, it's actually PVC plank. They are individual pieces so it's not a sheet product and each plank is pretty thick and heavy. Floor is totally waterproof so the entire basement could flood and I could take this stuff out, dry it off, and stick it back in. It looks pretty real too with beveled edges, hand scraped finish, and great patterns all for ~$2.50/sqft.

Progress! All cabinets installed, flooring installed, walnut countertop installed! Next step is the glue down the speaker wiring, install the trim, and build the floating shelves. Hope to be done in a couple weeks now that my travel schedule is more open.
Thanks man.
Much more progress now. Trim is all in, transition pieces are in (wood to carpet), speaker wiring is complete, and cabinet doors are in. I started work on the floating shelves last night. I'll post some pics later on when I go to mock them up.

Ask and you shall receive...two days later. With bigger pics as requested!
Floating shelves built. Wife is painting them now.

Cabinets completed (except drawer pulls), fridge moved to final resting place.

Tile installed, waiting to grout. Can finally see how awesome the walnut top is. Still need to sand and finish it better though. The factory finish is kinda splotchy, going to replace with tung oil.

There's no way in hell I can build cabinets and have them look half as good as the ones I bought.
Tile is grouted and shelving is on the wall! Admittedly, the shelving came out thicker than anticipated. Oh well, I might change it out in the future but for now it is what it is.
Grout complete and shelf bracket on the wall. (atomlinks, this is what the bracket looks like)

Both shelves on the wall and the important stuff going on them.

Just have to do the last of the quarter round tonight, sand and finish the countertop, take delivery of my damn TV, and I'll be done!

Wow...your attention to detail is really impressive, Sam. Love the look you have going, color scheme, choice of tile and grout. Incredible job, man.
And thanks for the fullsize pics!

That would suck... Lots of room on top shelf though. The thick face gave me an idea.. Could take the front face of the floating shelf, put a piano hinge on the top so they'd flip up and you could keep the special secret stash in there.

but seriously, the tallest bottles go on the top shelf. What kind of rookie move is that?
The ones downstairs, I'm going to try and make magnetic so I can stick stuff on there. Also might put a bottle opener on there too somehow.
Oh and if I redo this, I'll probably make them thinner by making a metal bracket rather than a wooden one.
In any case, the point of the lower shelf is to show off my sizable collection of pint glasses. The top shelf is for booze. I don't do liquor that often so it's not a huge deal.
Yup, sure is. I used to collect those 1:18 models but I haven't gotten any new ones in a while. They're the cheap ones though so many of them look pretty tired even though they've just sat on a shelf for years. The bigger piece of art (the car) on the wall is actually a drawing someone did, he made a limited run as the original was commissioned by Mercedes and I got one of 25 or something copies out there. It's gorgeous and I'm going to see if any of the others are still available...
