Replacing Run Capacitor on A/C unit -- easy job?
I had someone come by for routine maintenance and inspection on my A/C unit. He said nothing was an emergency but strongly suggested I replace my run capacitor as it was weak.
He quoted me $220 to replace it. Normally I would have paid it but I just dropped over $1000 this past weekend for other work done around my house and this charge is unexpected.
I looked on Youtube and it seems to be something I could do myself. Has anyone on here did this type of repair themselves and in addition to possibly electrocuting myself, is there anything else I need to watch out for in case I attempt to do this job myself?

I did mine a few years ago. It's a simple repair.
Few tips.
Pull main AC fuse outside and discharge the capacitor before you touch anything. Check the video below it walks you through everything.

Where did you get your run capacitor from? I have the model number of my A/C unit, but can't find parts for it online. Are these universal or do I need to use the exact one that is in my A/C unit now?

mine actually blew and knocked the side of the A/C unit right off. I thought lightning struck the house when it went up, quite amazing. I had no idea what happened until I walked around the house and saw the side of the AC unit lying on the ground.
I got mine from an appliance parts dealer in my home town, it was $42. Very easy install.

It's easy to do. I had to replace mine last year after mine blew (popped top) and stopped the AC from working.
You should pull the power, open your AC service panel on the outside unit and look for the markings on the current capacitor. See 3:55 in the video linked above.
I bought my replacement from Amazon, but if you have a local place you can certainly gt it from there. I don't think Home Depot or Lowes sells them. Match the microFarads, Higher voltage is OK.
I needed a 35+5 MFD 370 V Round Dual Capacitor, and Amazon had it for less then 30 bucks. The brand doesn't really matter and neither does the shape (round vs oval), but if you get what you have it will fit nicely, otherwise you have to rig it.
