replacement windows

I have two bedroom windows in my house that are really drafty in the wintertime and they are in my kids room. I'm trying to find replacement windows before the upcoming winter weather kicks in and wondered if you guys have any advice. My boss recommended getting Andersen windows but i don't have nearly that much money to dedicate to the project and was looking at spending anywhere from $800 - 1400 for the entire project. Any suggestions as to window brands would be greatly appreciated.

If it's a standard size window you can get a replacement window from any of the bog box stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc). You remove everthing but the jams and basically it's a window that mounts in the old window opening. I did all 14 windows in my old house myself. The windows were about $150 each and took about an hour each to replace. No more drafty windows and I increased the value of my house with little investment.

Just about any window you get today is better than other put in a house 10 years ago. Just make sure they have a good e value and reflect the suns harmful rays, which again is just about any window built in the last 5 years.

When windows are replaced not only will you stop getting drafts, but they will also deaden outdoor noise.

If you do have some do the job for you, it is more expensive to do too few windows than more.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I want to eventually replace all the windows in the house in the next year or so because the builder used some cheap windows and there are drafts. Right now i only have enough extra money to replace the ones in the kids bedroom and maybe in the master bedroom also. I'm heading down to Lowes to see what they offer, we're especially interested in protection from the sun.
