Removing Grass

I am remodeling my back yard and I want to do seed since sod is a little too expensive for me. what would be the easiest way to remove the old stuff? I will post pictures of the yard later today. but I here is a quick diagram

here is a picture of the flagstone walkway that I did last summer

I was told a sod cutter, but how much is that a day to rent? and also when I take up the sod will not put seed right away, I will take down the top 3-5 inches of soil, I have a bunch of crab grass so I need to weed kill it with round up and rototill it.

I want to start within the next few weeks

also how long will it take for the seed to come in? and I should use kentuky bluegrass right? or what is the best for my area, this winter was teh coldest it has been in years. I lot a couple of bushes but the grass currently dies off during the winter, I was to keep it green yearround if possible

I had hydromulch done and I had to use Round Up about 6 weeks before any new grass went down. Seed is OK, I would look at hydromulch as it will be a better quality seed (typically) and it is in a fertilizer suspension.

To answer the original question, Roundup the entire thing and let it sit for 6 weeks to kill and have the roundup gone befroe anything goes down.

As for grass in TX, Bermuda or St Augustine are the two most common, we have Bermuda.

With round up and Hydromulch you don't have to pull it up. That is the point of hydromulch vs seed.
PM me if you want to know how mine went, I had 25,000 sq feet of dirt to do and it is a nice yard now. Only took a few months to have the grass growing in.
