Question.. What should I do?

July 28th I had a new A/C unit put in (the entire unit). First couple of weeks it was functioning good, then the week/weekend of August 30th it wasn't cooling properly. They came out, found a freon leak, fixed it and refilled the freon.

Started cooling properly again.. Since Friday it has stopped cooling properly again.. I called yesterday, but they can't get someone out till tomorrow, so the house is 82-83 right now.

I was thinking of calling them and complaining because it shouldn't take 2 service calls to get a brand new unit to function properly. I was going to ask for a $100 credit. Does that sound good? Too much? Too little? Should I not call? Thanks for the help.

If it's losing coolant that fast then it's a pretty big leak. Could be a sign of a poor installation or a defective part. My unit has a coolant leak but it takes 2 years for it to get to the point that it needs recharging. I can't find anyone willing to take the time to find the leak. They all say "replace it and give me $5k".

If it's not fixed this time get a supervisor involved. How is their BBB rating?

Do A/C units have lemon laws?

Squeaky wheels get oiled. Call again and again until you get satisfaction. I would guess you paid much more than 100.00 for the unit...yes? Well, get your money's worth.

I would ask for a whole new unit (warranty). Shouldn't have a single issue with it unless there is a manufacturer's defect.

Yeah they're coming out tomorrow to see what's wrong with it. Pretty positive it's another freon issue because it will put out air, but it's not cold air, more like lukewarm air. I'll wait and see what is wrong with it, as I don't pay anything since it's under warranty. It's just a hassle to not have cold air when I should.

The techs that come out are extremely friendly and helpful, and I don't have a problem with the company. It's just frustrating to sit in a house that can't get below 82 degrees during the day. When the A/C is running properly it feels amazing at 78 degrees.

I say give them one more chance. As mentioned, no way it should be leaking that much freon.

Find out how much freon had to be added.

x2. This could just as likely be a defective part as it could defective workmanship on the part of the installer. If the next repair doesn't work, I'd press for a new unit.

So the guy came out and it is definitely a freon leak. He said he couldn't find the leak, but they will have to come back and do a special test to find it. He said it is either the pipe running down the wall from the attic or the coil. He filled up the freon though so the machine is cooling temporarily.. it's nice to have cold air again.

It's a freon leak. It has to be something within the unit. There shouldn't be any pipes "running down the wall from the attic" carrying freon.

Gotta love these guys. It's nice to see the techs are the same in GA as they are in NJ. First dude told you he fixed the leak, second guy knew he was coming out to find a leak but didn't have the equipment needed.

? Maybe I phrased it wrong, but he said the pipes running from the outside unit to the unit in the attic could have a leak since the newer unit has higher pressure than the older unit. He said it was either that pipe or the coil leaking, but couldn't test it unless the lines were emptied.

Prelim report as my wife is home while I'm at work. The guy found a crack in the pipe, but luckily it was outside, but not behind the wall. He just has to replace a small portion and weld it back on. Hopefully that's the only crack
