President Bush Would be Happy/New Swing Set

My wife has been talking to me about getting a swing set for our 3YO (and newborn) for almost a year now. We have a neighborhood set just across the street and my daughter loves going there.

We went to the circus a month ago and they had a Rainbow salesperson there. A couple of days later we went to their showroom and that was all she wrote...seeing my daughter run from set to set and just loving life was enough to get me to get over the whole "I don't want a swing set in my yard" bit. Plus I rationalized since we were spending our rebate check on an American made product (all Rainbow sets are made in South Dakota). We got a $2500 set (includes delivery and installation) for a significant savings since it was a '07 model and they had to make room for the '08's...sounds like a car commercial

Before:

While it was being installed. My daughter insisted on eating her breakfast and watching them build it:

Funny how she wanted to eat while watching them build it

Did you do those walkway pavers yourself, or did you pay for someone to lay them down?

What kind of grass do you have? It is pretty impressive looking considering the amount of trees around. I also have a wooded lot and I have a hell of a time with the lawn in my front yard. My backyard is in good shape as it seems to get enough sun.

nice but 2500 seems excessive for that to someone that's never shopped them before (me). seems like you could build one for a few hundred?. i dunno.

She gets that from her mother...wanting to be a "supervisor"

I did them myself last summer. That is why there are still 5-10 missing pavers on the turn b/c I need to get somebody to cut them for me.

Thanks! It is just a fescue blend....Scott's Pure Premium or something like that. It is not cheap (like $70/80 for a 50lb bag), but so far, so good.. I just seeded it in the fall and am quite interested to see how it holds up to a hot VA summer. My yard was one of the first in the neighborhood to green up this spring.

I also just use Scott's fertilizer religiously. I refuse to water since I have the kids and a dog and I don't need a golf course putting green in my back yard. I have neighbors who get $500 water bills every 2 months.

I got it well south of that. I thought about getting the $1400 unit at Costco, but I don't have the time to put it together (I'm finishing up my doctorate) so by the time I pay somebody to put it together, I'm close to what I paid for this w/no headaches. Plus, I liked the lifetime warranty from Rainbow.

The salesperson calls it the "Mercedes" of swing sets b/c of the materials and design that go into it. It is sturdy as a rock, unlike the 1000 unit that my neighbor just bought at ToysRUs.

You should see some of the other sets that they sell....believe it or not, but ours is one of their cheapest ones

Thanks! She has been looking forward to it. We bought it a month ago, but we delayed the installation so that it came after the baby arrived. We wanted her to get something "special" after he popped out since much of the attention is no longer focused on her.

We filmed her when she first got to play on it....she was like a bouncey ball going from one thing to the other...or like how I would be with a wad of cash in Best Buy
