Plumbing Sucks

I don't know why anyone on earth would want to be a plumber. It's the most irritating job on the planet.

I spent the better part of the day installing a new pedestal sink & faucet, one little annoying issue after another.

And just think, that's a relatively simple plumbing task.

I would slit my wrists if I had to deal with this nonsense on a daily basis.

Plumbing is not so bad. At least you get to use a blowtorch to do the copper work.

The blowtorch work is even more of an annoyance for me.

I'd rather be an electrician.

^ I'd take plumbing or electrician over doing drywall any day of the week. God do I hate drywall. I don't mind the hanging and initial taping, but damn that final coat or 2!!

you may have a point there. drywall is rather tedious and boring.

Yeah, plumbing does blow... I was messing around with some leaks under my kitchen sink and decided to just remove the mess that the prior owner had hacked, and replace it all with new stuff.. Much easier, and no leaks now

I don't mind the simple stuff that doesn't involve a blowtorch.

I tried the blowtorch once and almost burned down my kitchen. Making good seals with the torch takes practice. Any plumber that has his skill down and can keep his crack under wraps is worth his rate.

pre-soldered pipe makes the things a lot easier.

+1 for plastic pipes

I found using wirsbro tubing as a neophyte plumber was dead easy.

crosslinked polyethylene FTW!

Holy shit.
I have been dealing with this crap for the past week.
I spent the whole day trying to get my slop sink and downstairst bathroom to drain properly.
I broke my rooter.
Used some horrible chemicals.
Stank up the utiltiy room
And it still doesn't drain.
My plumber fucked up on the venting i think....i dont think its clogged. It is sooo fucking annoying.
I am going to have to break down and call a frickin plumber (not the same one).

I love the character of old houses. But, it is like nothing is ever 100% ok. I see why people like new construction but... man .. that stuff is usually

I hate installing faucets, slamming my head, not being able to reach shit... I'm practically punching out the inside of the cabinets in anger.

The rotorouter guy told us he used to be a plumber but he makes more pulling crap out of toilets... Just knowing that would make the job too depressing to do.

I also don't like working on other peoples stuff, because a lot of the time it will be better than yours, and that makes me jealous.

Last year, I replaced my kitchen sink, garbage disposal, faucets, water lines for everything and ran a line to my ice maker. I thought it was a good learning experience. It took a while, but it was a lot better than paying someone a ton to do it.

I would NOT have even attempted it if I had to use a torch. Everything I used were simple flood safe water lines.

4 months later, and not a single leak or problem at all. Only issue is that the base for the hand held side sprayer is a 2 piece base, and the top piece keeps slipping. I really need to fix that, it drives me nuts.

Being an electrician really isn't bad at all...I still like it after almost 5 years. I wouldn't mind doing it as a career, but I just got other plans

It's nice as a fall-back job, though...

It's really good to understand plumbing and electricity. It 's even better to make enough doing what you do so that you can pay those people for their services. Very little is really all that difficult if you do it all the time.

Old construction sucks.

I avoid re-wiring as much as possible, but I still do a good amount of it.

My buddy I used to work with doing new construction now does strictly re-wiring in older houses, so I help him a lot.

And yes, I usually refer jobs that I don't want to do to him
