Did some more work yesterday. Installed the rest of the cabinets (2 in above pic weren't put in) and we started working on the counter top. The ply wood has been installed.

What it'll look like with the counter top:

New Kohler sink (just purchased a Delta Faucet yesterday as well. We just cut out the hole and left it in there for the sake of saving space.

I freaking love this cabinet

Looks great. Just curious, why didn't you opt for an 'under-the-counter' sink?

How do you do that when you tile the counter instead of putting 1 solid piece? If he had an under the counter sink wouldn't the wood show?

^Exactly. With laying granite tile, I don't think you can do undermount.

You probably could cut it out but I don't know if I'd like how that would look. I'm fine with the old style sink.

Also - if you ever need to take the sink out, you need to remove the counter top, makes it more of a PITA imo. Next place, maybe.

Not necessarily. I've seen it done where the wood was covered.

Yeah you can hide the wood but I think that's more hassle than just using an above the counter sink.

The less hassles the better This has already turned into a project that's much greater than I imagined.

Bought the rest of the cabinet handles last night so I'll be installing those and the roll out shelves throughout the week...kind of taking it easy this week, I'm starting to get burnt out between the project and being busy at work.

I'm hoping we'll install the granite counter tops this Sunday. Then we'll just need to make the edge but will at least have a functional sink and counter top where we can live somewhat normal.

It was kind of nice to make dinner in the oven last night.

Bought the under-cabinet lights last night

Hopefully will install prior to this weekend and then we can prep for laying the granite tile and prep for the back plash.

I can't wait to have running water in the kitchen. Washing dishes in the basement sucks!

Thanks!

We actually got those handles from some friends a couple years ago and never did anything with them. I have enough for all the cabinets and the pull outs will get knobs.

I'm hoping to install all the door hardware this week. Tonight, we're grouting.

Grouted the backplash and granite last night. Will seal the granite tonight and install the sink/garbage disposal/dishwasher on Friday.

I can't wait to have everything back.

Those cabinets are sick. Anyone know if you can add those type or pull outs to any regular old cabinets?

You can buy roll out shelves at any hardware store. I've seen them at Lowe's and Home Depot.

Thank you. I got the cabinets from Lowe's after looking at Menards & Home Depot. They had a pretty decent sale going on which included free smart stop for drawers and a free sink base.

To be honest with you, I'm exhausted. I feel like I haven't taken a break in over a month. We work on it at night or we're running around buying things and we work on it all day Saturdays and Sundays.

I'm ready to be finished with this project.

Didn't do too much this weekend. The sink is installed, the dishwasher is installed, we now have a functional kitchen!

Finished up the under cabinet lights, installed more door hardware, plates for outlets, working on the edge for the counter tops. We used a router today to get it ready and I'll be staining it this week and installing next Sunday.

Pics:

4 under cabinet lights on one switch.

Working on the edge:

Started with a 10' by 5.5" piece of maple and cut it up into three pieces, then used a router for a smooth edge. I'll be staining this week.

This was the difference from another layer today and from one coat of stain yesterday:

Bought molding as well. One piece for the kitchen, the small piece for the dining room

I'm all ready to put polyurethane on it tomorrow and installing everything this weekend.

Thanks guys.

I am very happy with the final result and sure am glad that it's finished! It's so clean at my house, it hasn't been this way for quite some time.

On to the next project - need to get windows quoted. I only have 4 windows and a patio door and they're original and terrible. I'd really like to get some new ones in there sometime this summer. But for now, planning a trip to Mexico

Amazing transformation and I am sure it makes it even better knowing that you did it all yourself too.

Thanks guys.

It's been weeks and I'm still not finished...haven't done anything. I just have a few small things left like covers and some putty/silicone and it's so hard to get back into the swing of things.

It's nice having a new kitchen though

Dryer just broke...following a washer...

Picked up a new washer/dryer today at Best Buy. Got Samsung front load ones, will be delivered next weekend. Time to start another project. Need to take everything out of the room, going to paint, etc.

Never a dull moment.
