Loud bang heard when flushing toilet
Hey guys is this called water hammer or something? Whenever I flush the upstairs toilet, you hear a loud BANG coming from downstairs - maybe in the wall it sounds like. Is this water hammer? What do I do to correct it? I can get the builder to send a plumber over, just wondering if there was something easy I could do so I do not need to have some bozo come over and do essentially the same thing.
Thanks

Looks like there is a solution for it. I have the same problem with my dish washer, but it's not too bad. Not bad enough for me to fix.
Call your builder.

Every once in a while I get a hissing sound from my shower drain. Could this be the same problem? The hissing lasts for about 24-48 hours, but every time I call the builder the noise is gone by the time they get to my house. They tell me its impossible for hissing to come from the shower drain.

I heard my toilet make that noise the same day I had my water heater replaced. Was thinking the plumber did something or just a coincidence. I've only heard it once so far so i'm not worried enough to have it checked out.

the plumber said since there is still contruction going on in the immediate area that air could be coming in and causing the bang. Of course when he was here to listen - the stupid toilet did not make a sound - figures. So it does not do it all the time....strange. Maybe I will shutoff the water and drain the house and then turn back on - kinda "reboot" the system.
