A light at the end of the tunnel!!!!!
I've been searching for a house for about 6 months. Found one, massively failed inspection and the owners weren't in a financial situation to give us the 50k+ credit needed to fix the issues. Found another house, and got into a bidding war, and lost (house ended up going for 40k over asking price!). Finally, found a house, offer was accepted, passed inspection, and I gave intent to vacant my apartment in a month today. We close on it April 27 and move in that weekend.
House is adorable, with a nice chunk of property, with 40 acres landlocked behind it, with no houses. The upstairs needs to be finished, and a garage put up, and everything will be perfect. I even have a stream for the dogs to swim in. I couldn't be more excited, and can't wait to move and get out of the crappy area i live in now! The really neat thing about the house is that the owner is a hobby woodworker, and anything wood in the house was completely custom and handmade by him. The floors alone are a work of art.

Ravi, if you go down south, around Howell/Jackson, and even further, there's tons of houses with significant chunks of land. Same with up north, in Hunterdon and Somerset counties, although property goes for roughly 800k an acre. It's still so much cheaper down south. We were inquiring about one house in Jackson that had 14 acres, non-subdividable, and partially swampy. Price started out a year ago at 1.1 million, and when I checked last week, was down to 545. The house, while smaller, ranch style, is certainly very nice. Similar house in Hunterdon county with only 3 acres just sold for 3.2 million.
We are all set to close on the 26th of this month, and we don't have to be out of the apartment until the 6th, so it gives enough time to move without it being insane. I can't wait to start getting the garage up and everything settled in. I have been talking to Morton bulidings about putting up the garage, and so far so good. Just have to get someone to the property and get an estimate.
