I prefer to use a leather couch cleaner if there is such a thing.
Be careful that whatever you use, it does not dry out the leather. I'd just go out and buy a spray on leather cleaner and a conditioner. I have Berkline Caramel Color leather sofas that do show some dirt so I only use cleaners that are made to clean leather.

You can get simple green at the supermarket. Works great on everything. If its nice leather, you might want to look into some actual leather cleaner/conditioner. I'd imagine they sell that stuff at the supermarket too.

Lexol Cleaner, Lexol Conditioner.
Same stuff I use in the car, and it can be found in many places (PepBoys for you Americans, I believe). Also, most good saddlery (horse riding stores that sell saddles, etc...) will have it. One orange bottle, one brown bottle.
Lasts a LONG time and is the best I've ever found for automotive and househld leather.

That's why I recommended the Lexol (it's similar to a saddle soap but safer -- Ph-balanced). And it has an accompanying conditioner.
Why is it that I've used leather conditioner on my car twice already (and I've only had it for a few months) and I still haven't done anything with my leather couch that I've had for a year? Guess it shows where my priorities are. My couch is black though, so if it's dirty, you can't tell.
