Lawn Mower w/ bent crank shaft
Just curious if anyone has experienced this. I purchased a Troy-Bilt from Lowes almost 3 years ago. Last fall I hit a tree stump in the backyard. Every since it has been shaking violently to the point of hurting my hands while mowing.
I've read everywhere that they say it's not worth fixing. It's expensive and if they do bend it back, it won't be as strong. I don't have the time to take it apart to see if I can replace the crank shaft myself.
Seeing as how it is only $299, I plan to purchase another one.
But it seems wasteful to throw out a perfectly good engine, granted the crank shaft is bent. Do you think I can sell it for parts?

That sounds really familiar. Are you related to my wife? She did that exact thing to our Honda mower. I took it to a repair guy who was able to fix it because the bend was slight enough and far enough down the shaft. Cost me about $100 including a new blade set --- much cheaper than buying a new mower.
Yours may be too bent to fix, but it might be worth having a repair guy look at it.

^^^Quite possibly!
The Troy-Bilt serves it's purpose and I didn't have the need to buy a higher end Honda one. We have a small lawn so I'll leave the upgrading to a better lawn mower when we have a bigger house.
I'm curious if the bend that I have is minor as well. I would prefer not to buy another new lawn mower at this time. But the problem is bringing it in for a repair guy to look at it. The CL and TL are not exactly the best vehicles to haul lawn mowers around.
I may have to ask someone with a van or truck to help me out.
Thanks!

Of all the things to go wrong on a push mower, a bent crank is the worst...

It's a perfectly good engine too... a Briggs and Stratton, not the best... but serves its purpose.
