Lawn maintenance questions..

Damnit, this is sa when it comes to this.

Basically I am in the market for a lawnmower for my new place, the yard isn't huge, but it's not small either. Anyone have any recommendations on lawn equipment? (Specifically walk behind lawn mowers, preferably self propelled ). I'm also looking at buying a blower/vac and will probably end up getting an electric (so I can use it to dry off the car after a nice wash !!)

Bah, go to walmart and buy the cheapest one that meets your cutting width needs. Don't screw with self propelled or other bells and whistles, your just pissing money away on something that is likely to break regularly anyway. I bought a 22" Murray for 150.00 and it cuts just as well as the guy across the street with a 500 yard machine....

Correction, 22"

almost 2 acres and I survive by my John Deere rider.

however, I recommend Scotts or Honda self propelled walk behind for quietness and comfort if you have anything over 3/4 acre. Look for at least 5-6hp OHV if you have thick hearty grass like mine.

I refuse to use a blower. Sorry no suggestions there

If you have a big yard, get a rider mower. Well worth the bucks. I have a self propelled Honda and that is the only brand to get. The Honda like mine will run yoy around $550.

Go to Sears and kick some lawnmover tires...

I have a large lot, but it’s mostly wooded so I use a “walk behind” mower.
I have a tractor too, but it’s mostly used for hauling stuff around with the cart/trailer.

The mower is a Honda self propelled Hydrostatic mulching unit.
It costs more then the above mentioned Murry & SEARS units, but I think it’s worth it.
It’s got an unbreakable and rustproof Xenoy (plastic like) deck.

With a Hydrostatic drive you have an infinite speed setting from a crawl to where the sucker is literally pulling you across the lawn.
I paid about 650 for it about SIX years ago and it’s still going strong and it starts on one pull every time.

The Craftsman it replaced died after only THREE.

Again... Honda. Price is slightly more but will last double of what a regular mower will....

I agree

Briggs & Stratton was around in lawnmowers long before I ever saw a Honda engine. They work fine as long as they are properly maintained. In other words, you have to change the oil, keep the blade sharp, oil the fittings, use clean/dry gas, oil the air filter & for god's sake...clean out the grass after every cut.

I used to cut lawns when I was 9...I beat the hell outta my mower. My dad still has the same B & S 3 HP engine(the body rusted to shit after 5 or 6 paint jobs though). I'm 30 now.

But...if you want to spend the money...

Honda makes a nice 6 HP mower,,,I believe Craftsman sells a few models with Honda engines.

I just invested in a little 12 year old kid...you have to feed him every once in a while...throw him a few bucks and encourage him and he cuts your lawn!

It really depends on how much lawn you've got to cut.

I've got 1/2 acre, but got a used craftman 11hp riding mower 'cause I'm a lazy bastard and don't like to walk around the yard.

Like others have said, the honda is a sweet mower if you don't have much to cut.
