Installing a garbage disposal.
Installing a garbage disposal.
Anybody ever done it before? It seems like its just plug-n-play. My parents bought a brand new house, but didn't come with a garbage disposal, so I'm thinking about installing one for them over the spring break time.
You will also need the PVC to tap in to the plumbing, but it is all screwed in by hand and can be cut with a PVC cutter or hacksaw.
Do check to assure they are on sewer and not septic-and the municipality is OK with it.
plumbers putty is going to be necessary, also some PVC piping to reroute the pipes. Take your time and let the putty set, its good to hang the garbage disposal to add some weight to the putty to make it set nice and flat. The electrical might be a bit more tough, I already had a prewire for it, but you can tap into the dishwasher or something...

You do not need any extra pvc to install it. It comes with an elbow that connects from the disposer to the existing trap.
You will need to provide:
electricity to the unit
a spot to install a switch, assuming you purchased a continuous feed disposal.
If you purchased a batch feed disposal, you only need to provide electricity
If you have a dishwasher, you will need to purchase (unless it's included), a dishwasher connection kit (see photo below). Make sure you remember to punch out the hole for the dishwasher connection.
