How much would it cost to build a ~ 400 sq ft room?

I'm going to be getting estimates soon but wanted to know if anyone on here can provide some feedback. I wanted to build an additional room in the massive storage space we have in our basement. About 350-400 sq ft. with outlets every 8 feet and tv hook up and 4 recessed lighting and a large sliding door closet. Its a multi-purpose room - no window so its not actually considered a bedroom but we may use it as that later on..

Thanks!

just so it's clear, you want to section off an area of your basement into a 400sq. ft room, right?

It'd be framing 3 or less walls and a matter of running the electrical stuff from the main box properly to the new areas.

No window? I don't think you'll have a choice, building codes need to be checked. And if you're going to hire someone to do the work, you better be sure they know about the code. It'll be a job inspected and work permitted by your local government.

i have a finished basement over 1000 sq ft. i wanted to make the storage room into a room.. for the purposes of building code/gov code etc its not going to be classified as a bedroom.. itll just be a room with a closest (office, rec room, gym etc).. so i'll need framing for 3 walls.

As mentioned, depends on a lot of things, flooring especially... But I'd say if you'd pay someone... $3-4K. 400 sq ft at $3 a sq ft for carpeting is $1200 right there... I bet you'd be closer to $4K.

if the basement is already finished, and you are just closing off a section to make into a 'room', then it shouldn't cost you much... if your external walls are already finished (e.g.. insultated, studded, and drywalled), the floor is done and you don't plan to change it, the materials for the three walls won't cost you much at all...

i agree with a few grand...
