Home Security
I just had an attempted break in and was thinking about getting a security system. There are lots of 3rd party co's advertising all sorts of systems and deals. Any advise?
I also might get a glock

There's been a lot of bad press on ADT, no matter what they say to sell you the system they're only liable for (IIRC) $500, (read the fine print). Get insurance and make sure it covers replacement of goods.
Also a dog would help, once a dog barks, they're leaving.

My roommate has a boxer, but he stays in the bedroom during the day. So, he may have scared the robber off, but if he made it in the house, the dog isnt doing anything. Plus the dog is a pushover unless he sensed some danger I guess. Fucking ridiculous people want to steal shit instead of work for it. If I catch one, I will shoot to kill.

We have a standard alarm guarding doors/windows, video survelience around the entire house, as well as two Dobermans. If you make it into the house, good luck because the alarm is loud enough to wake up the entire block, the Dobermans will be on your ass, and oh yeah, we have video evidence.

to a shotgun and insurance, I'm sure dogs help, but I'm just not a dog person. If you upgrade your insurance make sure its for replacement cost, not actual value, otherwise everything is on a depreciation schedule and you may not get near enough to replace items. For example most insurance companies feel a couch has a 10 year life span, my couch is 11 years old and still looks/feels near new, if it were stolen and I had actual value insurance on it they would give me nothing for it. The difference for me in premium between actual value and replacement cost was under $200/ year.

And what's with the shotgun/gun ideas?? I don't think OP was at home when the attempted break-in occurred, so an entire arsenal in the house would have been useless except as a target for the burglar.
Only thoughts I had were ANY security company, a sign out front and a loud siren/alarm attached to the system. Maybe a dog if OP wants and can care for a dog.

Nootch, sorry to hear about the attempt break in. Where in Scottsdale are you? A couple of Azine-ers are in the NE Valley.

If he's thinking of getting a Glock, a shotgun is a better choice for general home defense. Only carry a handgun because of the size. A rifle or shotgun is always going to be better, meaning for around the house.
#4 buck or low recoil 00 buck is a good choice.
If just buying regular store hunting ammo, I'd get 2 3/4" instead of 3" shells. The kick is too much for a non regular shooter.
