Hard Water Filter (shower)

So as I am down in my basement doing some plumbing I notice that my washer is leaking ...The god damn water pump looks to have shit the bed....Anyways I am looking for suggestions...

Anyone use a hard water filter for their shower? Either a hardwired unit or as a showerhead add on?

Do they work?

They don't make a hard water filter. In order to make the water soft, you need a water conditioner. The most popular are the ones that use salt (brine) to replace the calcium with sodium. These usually require a plumber to install, unless you are handy with plumbing.

You can also have a reverse osmosis conditioner. But they usually use 5 gallons of untreated water to every gallon of softened water.

Hey Culligan man!

(just get a whole home water softener and be done with it -- softened water is better for all the pipes, plumbing, and appliances that it runs through)

Sears sells em for about $500...but you can rent the whole shebang from the Culligan man & they'll set it up.

Soft water is a HUGE plus...keeps your clothes fresh longer, keeps YOU fresh longer when you use it to shower also...I used to be able to go a day without the Speedstick when I had mine installed in the last house.
