Garage Door Opener
SubscribePROPS on the new forum
I am planning to install a garage door opener in the new pad. Anyone have any recommendations? What to buy and where to get the best price?
Also, I plan to install it myself. Anyone have an experience on this... how hard is it? I want to get the one with one with a number pad outside the house... somethin nice, quiet, and will not give me problems after installed.
Any tips/advise?

If you have a room over your garage go with a belt drive. I am looking at doing the same and anticipate getting a belt drive opener from sears. The belt drives are quiet, screw drives are fast, and chain drive are inexpensive.
As for the install expect to take a full day for the install. Hopefully your garage is prewired.
I am thinking about getting somebody to install mine for me simply because it is hot as hell this summer.

I put one up about two months ago and it turned out pretty good. Just make sure to read directions and have a ladder on hand. Also be prepared to make unexpected trips to the local hardware store during the install. Good luck!
Burning Brakes
I put the turbo screw one. Don't go chain, they are loud and slow. Pay a little more to go with the screw type. They are fast and nice. Install is pretty easy, especially if you have a helper. It was a bitch to do it myself but doable. Good A shaped step ladder is good too.
Homeless
Yeah...do invite a friend over to help...do borrow an extra ladder for your buddy...do go with a screw-drive...quiet/quick.
Some people swear by Sears brand...but Genie is a great product, easy to find parts for them, PLENTY of add on accessories~key pads, etc.
I bought my quick-drive Genie screw models at Home Depot for about $160 each. Great product, IMHO.
