Garage Door
Garage Door
So part of the renovation in my new crib is the need for a new garage door.
I had a guy come out yesterday, gave me an estimate. He wants 650 for the door, including all springs, rails, etc with installation. I think that is a good price.
However, I need a new motor and he wanted 325 for that with installation. That might be a bit pricier. I am not sure which motor, he said belt driven because the garage is below a bedroom.
What do you guys think?

You can buy a good opener for $200 or less and install it yourself. The big question would be what kind of opener is he putting in (real high quality or what), and how much is it worth to you to not have to deal with it.
$325 might be a little high, but if I already had him coming for the rest of it, I'd bite. Then not only will it be fixed all at once, but if anything goes wrong the same guy is responsible for all of it.
(Note: the builder charged $450 to install an opener in my neighborhood. I put in my own it isn't that hard.)

Belt driven from sears ~$220. Install ~$100. $320 to $350 is very reasonable for the install of an opener but I would talk him down since he will be out there any way. Tell him $290 even for the motor and he's got a deal.
Belt driven is quiter than screw and it is actually the quitest. If there is a room above the garage belt driven is the only way to go.
Good price on the door plus install. Have him put a double spring on it.
