Well, I ended up returned the GE fridge. It got scratched on delivery and i just couldnt deal with its large depth. So I went with this beast. It was significantly more money but so far so good.

Looks just like our Maytag-probably came out of the same factory. Makes a little noise when it gives birth to a new batch of ice cubes, otherwise it's a great fridge.

You'll be happy.

Yep, I have the Maytag. It's the same as the KitchenAid. Both are made by Amana.

Soopa,

Do you know which brands are the made by the same manufacturer? I'm curious to know the price differences in the refrigerators even though they are the same internally.

I don't have a full list.

I know the cheapest is direct from Amana (obviously), followed by Maytag. At the top of the scale is Jenn-Air, which some places were selling for as much as $1000 more then the Maytag despite being IDENTICAL in every detail except the door handles.

That's a 36x72" opening on the dot. The counter-depth fridge fits like a glove (except theres TOO much room at the top that needs to be closed with fillers).

Definately go with bottom freezer, and french door style if you can. It's a very efficient design. As you said, it's far more convenient to have frequently used items like fruits, vegetables, and drinks at eye level versus your maybe once a day frozen goods.

Side by side will give you the best of both worlds in that respect, but the freezers have no room for anything... ESPECIALLY in counter depth models.

What fridge is that? I am looking for that style in a counter depth for the new house, but can't seem to locate one... All of our other appliances will be GE Monogram, but the only thing they have similar to that is a side by side or built in...

Did you read through the thread?

Soopa's got a Maytag.

FYI, GE doesnt make a counter depth french-door fridge.

Because its counter depth. For whatever reason, going counter depth increases the price significantly. At least thats the case with the french door fridges.

I'm looking at a counter depth Frigidaire and I'm not having any luck with the sales people at Best Buy, Lowes, Conns, or Sears. They don't seem to know anything about them and the model #'s don't match with the Frigidaire web site.

^ Find a good independent dealer for that stuff and you will never go back to the "box stores" for an appliance again.
