Dyson Vacuum?
Dyson Vacuum?
Anybody got any feedback/personal experience with one? Is all the publicity hype or is it really a kickass vacuum? My obsessive complusiveness is in my vacuuming (do it almost daily), so why not spring for a decent vac...
FWIW.... Consumer reports hated it. Said you can do much bettet with a high end Hoover for half the price.
My brother inlaw has one. Hasn't complained... But shit... $400+ for a vacuum? It better suck my dick too...

my parents and us were such stupid fucks we bought one of those for like $1000.... the funniest part is we only had one room with a carpet
sorry for hijacking

We got sucked in by the hype on Dyson's previous product, marketed in the mid-1990s in North America under the brand name Fantom. Our Fantom Fury Thunder (dual cyclonic, etc...) really was a very mediocre vacuum. Sure, it had HEPA filtering and no bag, but it also didn't vacuum well and was difficult to repair when it broke within a couple years.
We bought a new vacuum this summer, and after a lot of research we went with a Miele canister vacuum. These little dudes have excellent suction, are lightweight, and
are supposed to last and last and last. So far, we've been very happy with it.

I bought the Dyson and love it. I had a Kirby salesman come over and demo'd it in our Family Room claiming it would pick up more dirt after any vacuum out there. After he finished I brought out the Dyson and vaccummed even more stuff that his Kirby didn't pick up. Needless to say he didn't make a sale.
i bought a bissel bagless for $90 at wally world, let me tell you, it really cleans well and i would recommend it. it even picks up the little dust/dirt and takes dog hair like a champ
Go to a vacuum store and get a real vac. Search for my long winded reply about this from a few months back (in the TL Ramblings). I ended up with a Simplicity upright.

OK. My gf and a really good friend in CA are anal when it comes to cleaning/vacuuming. Both use the Hoover Windtunnel self propelled with a bag. Nice thing with this is it cleans great, the hose for dusting/cleaning nooks just pulls out so you can vacuum and it has a powered handheld attachment. Get the one with the red/green light indicator. Lowes has it at $278 and find a 10% coupon (they are everywhere).
Don't buy from Costco. I bought one but I think it was a very old model as it did not have the red/green light indicators.

My brother has one, it's pimp. However my mom has convinced me to be a big fan of old school vacuums, they are very sturdy and last forever. I bought mine from a vacuum repair place, it was built in the 70's. The guys at these stores swear by the old shit, they say the new ones do nothing but break.

Old Kirbys and Hoovers are great, but they've been reworked for the worse in the last couple decades and the modern ones are now poor shadows of their past.
I've owned enough vacuums to realize that they all do a reasonable job cleaning when they are new. The question really is for long term consistency and reliability.
Most of the local vacuum guys also will through in free maintenance if you buy through them. The guy we ended up buying from matched the best internet pricing we found and kicked in a few extras plus the maintenance.

Egg, you know you can return any item from Costco at anytime for any reason, no questions, right?

Then went to Lowes for their Hoover Windtunnel.
Well I gots me a Dyson yesterday
My parents are here visiting for a week or so. They wanted to buy us some stuff for Christmas and our new house, and we happened to mention that our vacuum went kaput on us. So they went out and bought us a Dyson Animal vac... couldn't believe it.
I'm anxious to try it out though to see what it can do. We get a lot of cat hair in the carpet that the old vacuum did a piss poor job of taking out, and usually ended up getting pulled up into our carpet steam vac... which I then had to thoroughly clean after (wet hair.... yuck).

Oh, it's heavy as hell!

Bought it from Amazon a few years ago... it was on sale but I forget exactly how much it was.
