^^ See my post #38 regarding lack of features.

I dunno about service life, most reviews said they were decent.

Our dishwasher is a KitchenAid (it was pretty top line when we got it -- quiet with the food grinder built in). It's still going after 12 years. I've replaced a couple plastic parts inside but electrically and mechanically it's been a champ.

....for example LG makes some refrigerators for Kenmore, while Sanyo makes some Kenmore freezers...while at the same time Whirlpool makes some refrigerators for Kenmore.....Electrolux also makes many appliances under the Kenmore name as well.

....BSH makes Bosch & Thermadore....Thermadore makes Viking refrigerators.

What I'm getting at is you really don't know (without research) who really makes your brand of appliance.
Whirlpool Corp consists of - Whirlpool, Amana, Maytag, Magic Chef, Ikea, and includes Kitchen Aid and Jennair as their "high end" lines.

Frigidaire consists of Frigidare, Tappan and Electrolux being their "high end" line.

Kenmore is just a name that is sold by Sears. All the appliances are manufactured by different companies, including Whirlpool, LG and GE.

Bosch and Thermador is one company.

Wolf and Subzero is one company.

Viking is one company.

Fisher&Paykel and DCS is one company.

For the most part - the "high end" appliances are not worth the extra money. They look great, but cost a lot more to repair and generally are not as reliable.

Stay away from Electrolux - they over engineer everything to the point where some of the things they make dont make sense. They are also not very reliable.

Samsung is relatively new to the US market, but they are over engineered. They have complicated electronics and high cost of service. They haven't been on the market long enough to accurately measure reliability.
