Did I just waste half a bag of PatchMaster?

Ok, this is what happens when you don't read instructions...

I used to use Chemlawn, but decided to go the DIY route since I would enjoy it more and it would save a bunch. So the last time Chemlawn fertilized was mid-April. I planted some seeds to fill in some bigger spots early May and most have germinated and started growing. I have a couple smaller bare spots and someone suggested I use Patchmaster since the "mulch" in the mixture would help. I forget about filling in the spots for awhile, so 2 weekends ago I apply weed-n-feed. My buddy asked me how Patchmaster was doing, so I said I forgot, but I'll try it next week, which was this past weekend. I didn't start putting it down until this past Monday.

I put the stuff down, look at the instructions and it says not to weed-n-feed or fertilize until the 4th mowing. I figured I'd be safe since it didn't say anything about weed-n-feed before putting it down. I decide to check the weed-n-feed bag (I didn't throw out yet), and it said not to sow seeds or plant sod for 2-4 weeks after applying. I looked deeper into it on the web and found that the weed-n-feed has pre-emergant inhibitors which supposedly keeps the weeds from germinating, but may also keep the grass seeds from germinating. It rained heavily for several days after I put down weed-n-feed, but I fear not enough to wash it thoroughly before I had put down the patchmaster earlier this week.

Some people say it'll just take longer for the seeds to germinate, others say it'll kill/sterilize the seeds.

I still have half a bag left, but did I just waste the first half? Anyone plant seeds after weed-n-feed and had no problems?

It's a bit late to be seeding anyway. If not the weed and feed there is a good chance the summer heat will wipeout those little guys.

not around where i'm at...50's and 60's most of this past week...up to mid 70's a couple days these past couple months. We may be up into the 70's a couple of days next week unless the rain comes towards the end of next week...so I'm late but not at the cut-off. If i can get the seeds to germinate in the next or so, I'm golden.

Never had much luck w/ PatchMaster. In our old place, tried a few times to fill in burnt spots from neighborhood dog pee-pee to no avail.

Sucks to hear as I need to do something like this for the back yard. I've got a few bald spots.

Had best outcome by waiting for cooler fall weather, overseeding and watering the heck out of it for a few weeks.

I've had limited success with patchmaster. I might try mixing up some potting soil with turfbuiler and fill in the bare spots with that.

Looks like I"ll be ok...the stuff has started germinating after a little over 2 weeks, so it'll be in before hot weather strikes.

I agree with Rock about the potting soil/fertilizer/seed...I had better luck doing that than with the patchmaster. I think my friend just threw seeds into bare spots and that's why patchmaster worked better for him.
